Please report back on your experience with this battery. I am interested but reluctant to use aftermarket. Thanks.

My netbook was made on 7/31/09...has anyone else had a problem with the windows key sticker on the bottom of the netbook? Mine's been peeling. I think I may use a glue stick to stick it on tightly.
-
I really really really like it though. I may end up buying the dual core version for myself when it comes out. My parents have stolen the 1410 from me for right now. -
-
Anyways I ended up peeling 1/3 of the sticker off each end, applying gluestick to it and it seems to have fixed the issue. Time will tell if it's a permanent fix or not.
I'm not really worried about loosing it, but its annoying to me, and i've never seen this happen on any laptop before...even the battered ones. I have seen this happen on desktops that i support at work (dell...haha). -
I'm looking at netbooks, I'd like some feedback. I'm looking at a netbook for mobility, though I don't exactly plan on playing games (maybe random stuff like OMGPop or something netbook friendly) off of it, there's a few things I'd like to do such as: youtube, watch current animes (mainly avi), photoshop, and programming (Java, SQL, Oracle). Would this be sufficient enough for those?

The 1810T Z is finally showing up in Swedish stores for pre-ordering expectations for in-stock dates ranging from 9th to 12th (though you never know for sure). They're going for around 590€ at the respectable stores. Don't worry though, computers and tech in general is known to be very expensive in Sweden, I'd think it should be around 500-550 for the rest of Europe
I apologise if pricing and dates have already been posted. -
Are you guys installing windows 7 32 or 64? i am not sure which to install.
-
Are we sure 1810TZ means dual core? 3810TZ simply uses CU2700, which is single core, so it's possible 1810TZ would also be CU2700. Apologies if this point has been brought up already.
-
As specified on several respected Swedish stores;
Processor
Intel CULV Dual Core
Processorspeed
SU4100, 1.3Ghz, 2MB Cache -
The x64 instruction set is VASTLY superior to the x86 instruction set, and you can literally feel that difference when you use W7 x64. Multitasking is faster, graphics are smoother, the UI is snappier.
I don't think it's really even a question. Install x64. -

I've finally made up my mind, and I'm ready to buy mine.
Does anybody know ofany coupons, or discounts availiable for this weekend? -

Sadly I missed out on the double cash back by 1 day!!!
It is 5% cash back and no tax/ship if you don't live in NY.
I managed to get them to give me free overnight because i ordered on monday and called in on Thursday since it still didn't shift and i wanted it by friday. They said they just got the stock in...which is weird since the website did not say pre-order or backordered. So they have pretty nice CS. -
What should be the battery life difference between the single and dual core models? There's no way to shut off a core is there? -
-
I am looking at the American Acer website right now for drivers and they have the 1410, 1810T and 1810TZ listed. The latter two have 3G drivers listed as well.
So looks like we will also get the 1810T single-core model with the higher capacity 5600mah battery vs 4400mah in the 1410 and the 1810TZ should have the same battery as well. I hope the price difference between the higher end models won't be too large. -
Can't figure out if they are actually in-stock yet.
Some retailers have two models listed.
1810TZ-412G25Mn -250 hard drive -Price is 4299 yen
1810TZ-412G32n -320 hard drive -Price is 4599 yen
Anybody guess about other differences? -
I've had my 1410 since Thursday, and I love it. It's a huge step up from the Dell Latitude D600 series I've been using from my Air Force days.
From first startup I installed Win7 32bit since the free upgrade will be of the 32bit flavor from acer, and I've been impressed at what I can get out of this little single core! My only problem is a slight bit of trouble with playing hd video over hdmi to my flatscreen. I download a lot of video, and since the xbox360 is in the shop with another RROD I was excited to try out the HDMI output with some dvd iso backups and mkv files.
For the most part, 720p video will play smoothly in WMP12, and it looks great on the flatscreen, but sometimes I get a bit of choppiness during playback. I'm wondering if this is because of WMP12, and if anyone has any suggestions on an extremely resource light video player which can get the most out of this little laptop.
For example, we watched a dvd tonight which I extracted to audio/video ts folders and transfered it to the 1410, and for the most part it looked just like it was playing from a disk in a player. But, there were times when the audio and video de-synced and there was slightly noticeable lip/sound differences. Is this what I should expect from the 1410, or can it handle 720p or dvd files with no problem, and I need a different player?
I love this little computer, and after comparing it to a 13in Mac Book Pro today I couldn't imagine spending 4 times the money for very little extra. Even if I can't get perfect HD over HDMI, this is still an amazing value, and will be perfect for note taking, word processing, and general office type productivity. -
Also, is your 1410 in High Performance mode? Being plugged in is also faster than on battery. -
Its WMP12. It does the same to me with Standard Def videos on my T400.
-
I don't get any of that through VLC on the notebook, though I do need to try the HDMI. Probably tomorrow.
Installing 7 RC x64 (from Vista Home Premium, via 7 RTM x86). This is the 3rd OS in 3 days of ownership. Somebody shoot me. -

Slightly off topic but HP is also entering the 11.6" market, at a competitive price as it seems.

Phil, that´s not so OT at all
you make it easier to decide, which machine should ppl grab in the category of subnotebooks around 500 Euro. It is always better to have competition then not.

For all those lucky ones to have these, can you please comment on the glossy screen?
Is it very reflective or only moderately so?
Speaking for myself, I'm very sensitive to the screen reflections and that is what's putting me off from this lovely Acer.
It's the main reason I'm considering the Samsung N510 as a result - I'd settle for less CPU power with an Atom for its matte screen.
Can you guys please advise?
Many thanks to ALL for such an informative thread -
.
I'm one of the people that likes glossy screens so I'm not bothered by it. Working outside is possible as long as you sit strategically. -
I've noticed some strange clocking issues with the 1410 when changing the processor power options in Vista 32. When running the processor at 100% all the time, it run at the correct 7x 1.4GHz. If you lower the minimum down to around 75%, it will throttle down correctly to 6x 1.2GHz. But if you set the Windows default of 0% minimum, it overclocks to 8x 1.6GHz when idle, and throttle down to 1.4GHz when in use. I've confirmed this with several programs such a CPUZ and SIW. Anyone else see this?
-
@hanybanoub
I can't comment on 1410/1810t's screen.
This is more a rant about anti glossy argumentation.
Since I gave my old trusty Portegé to my girlfriend, I've always had glossy screens on my Notebooks. I use them indoors, outdoors in the shade and in direct sunlight, no problem. I very much like the more vibrant colors of glossy screens when using indoors. In direct sunlight it helps to let the sun shine directly on the screen, because modern glossy displays have got a semi transflective effect.
One thing I know is, that the 1410/1810t's backlight is brighter than my netbooks's backlight, so I won't have problems.
It might help to apply an anti glare screen protector to the display to reduce reflections if necessary. -
I wish I knew more about Vista's power saving settings. It is possible to do some direct tweaking with powercfg.exe. Maybe it is possible to find a setting where it always runs at 1.6GHz. I wish I had a 1410/1810t here to test it. -
-
CPU-Z is usually right.
Could you please do a benchmark on that setting? -

I was wondering if anyone uses a program to control their fan speed. I googled and searched these threads to find some stuff about SmartFan...but I could never find a place to download the program. Sadly my google skills have failed me this time. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I've found a trivial solution to the problem of the cooling fan running all the time when plugged in
Quite simple really, on Win7 you can change this under the advanced power options tab. Only has to set the cooling profile to passive. To do so, right click the battery icon and choose Power Options, from there follow the steps on the picture below
I'd like to comment on the glossy screen usability. I use this little marvel on a commuter train every day, and have no problem at all to forget about visibility. Once on a launch break I sat down the park in the center of the office building. It was quite sunny, and even on the highest brightness I had problem making out details of the movie I watched. So, unless you are sitting outside on the sun, glare is not a problem. In every other situation the screen is a joy to use.Last edited by a moderator: Feb 6, 2015 -

Please post this in the tweaks thread, too. Maybe try a smaller pic, though -
I used to use SpeedFan for my dells...then i moved to sony and nothing works with those locked up rigs...haha.
So i assume this is still kind of a work in progress since the modes don't work without some editing and not all modes have been discovered? -

Metallion, I just did my free upgrade request through acer's website, and it very specifically stated that it would be a 32bit to 32bit upgrade copy. I haven't bought an upgrade license for windows in years, but I don't remember there being both 32/64 bit versions on the vista upgrade I did for my father.
Phil, thanks for you info on the power settings, I'm currently going through the win7 power options right now to get high performance mode working. As it stands, I only have the option of balanced and power saver on right click of the battery indicator, and I've been in balanced when on AC whenever I've tried to play HD video. Hopefully I can get the power settings tweaked so that I am sure to get all performance possible out of this thing when it's plugged in.
Also, thanks so much Phil for your info throughout this thread. You're the reason that I decided this was the new notebook for me after you initial reviews, and followups for the past month. What a great little computer this is!
Finally, has anyone done any overclocking of this yet? From my "leg temperature sensor" it seems like it has a bit of thermal room to clock a bit higher, and I'd love for just an extra 100-200 Mhz to make everything run with a little more performance leeway.
