    Agreed lol
Sometimes solutions are so simple :)

This will take some work. The clock generator has trusted mode enabled, so there has to be found a hardware MOD to disable it first.

I have this set to passive but it doesn't really help when it's plugged in. The fan always runs when it's on the ac adapter. I'll try running smartfan later.

You should qualify that as "too much heat" is bad for computers. They will always be pretty warm, but there are limits of operation for a reason.

Hey guys wanted to chime in with some new information regarding certain drivers for vista/ win7 that really drag the cpu down. When I was conducting my own initial battery drain down test in Windows Vista x86 stock version loaded onto AS1410 acer netbook/notebook I was getting 30-45% cpu utilization while having winamp 2.95 older version stream a station from shoutcast.com (the buzz 181.fm 128kbps stream) this drained the battery in 4.5 hours exactly. The whole time I was wondering why the cpu was at 40% load. very strange. Well I threw in my western digitial 500gb hard drive and installed windows 7 x86 ultimate retail 30 day trial. I did some benchmarks and tests with the stock drivers that windows 7 installed by default and for the audio stream test the cpu utilization compared to vista was from 5-20% load, I was wondering why this was and what was different. So after all of my initial benchmark tests, i decided to first upgrade to the latest windows 7 intel gpu driver that had a link to from the 1410 tweak thread! this got my 3dmark03 and 3dmark06 scores a little higher compared to stock windows 7 microsoft driver for video. Next was lets upgrade the audio driver from microsofts to realteks latest and greatest hd audio driver latest version for win7. Well once I did this and did my audio stream test that is for draining the battery, the cpu utilzation was back to 35-45% just to listen to audio, this time though every 10-20 seconds the cpu would spike to 100% load from the 35-45%. What was cuasing this was the new realtek audio drivers as well as the dam audioDG.exe process. So I went into audio settings under volume control, mixer, click the speakers icon and it takes you to all kinds of audio settings. in there the first thing i noticed was that dolby crap comes with the realtek driver and enables both filters the sound seperation stuff and the bass stuff, i disabled both of those (unchecked them) and the cpu utilization dropped some, but not too much, next thing i go to the last tab in the settings and notice the audio quality for windows 7 to use was set to studio quality 24bit 48khz stereo setting, when the stock audio drivers with vista/windows 7 sets it to 16bit 44khz setting stereo. so i changed it that way and the cpu utilization dropped to what the stock MS driver was getting although a tad higher now. So I decided to uninstall the realtek driver and stick with the microsoft audio driver since it has the best cpu utilization.

Also with the realtek audio driver with default settings videos in internet explorer 8 at all the popular web sites, and also WMP12 would not be smooth for any type of video due to the audioDG.exe process and its high cpu usage as well as the realtek drivers, once back to the microsoft audio driver everything good again!

After all of this I decided to update the wifi driver in win7 to the latest from intel for the wifi 5100 card and picked vista 32 bit driver to install in win7, so far this driver is more of a stable wifi connection as well as the cpu utilization is the same.

Then I installed updated atheros lan network card driver then disabled the lan network card since i dont use it at this point in time so its turned off since i use wifi on it

then i installed the synaptics touchpad driver for vista 32 bit in win7 from acers site for drivers for this model.

Last thing I installed was the card reader drivers from vista 32 for windows 7 from acer site.

I did not use windows update for anything since there is nothing useful on there yet!

So far so good im doing another battery drain test with winamp streaming music from shoutcast in win7 idle at desktop with task manager going. cpu utilization is from 5% - 18% avergaing about 10% the uptime has been 45 minutes so far with screen on two levels above lowest brightness setting and system constantly on streaming no hibernation or standby or screen turn off or screen savers. After 45 minutes of being on windows 7 is reporting 4 hours and 24 minutes left at 86% battery level. Not too bad.

hope this information helps you guys out there to get the most out of the drivers and operating system!

    * DONT INSTALL REALTEK audio drivers use vista's/windows 7 stock audio driver, update video drivers to intels latest, and install all of the other stock acer drivers from there site for vista 32/64 for whichever windows 7 version you install!

Realtek HD drivers have more options than the default Vista/XP ones. And I've never had that audiodg problem.

Okay, 7 RC x64 now up and running. 1080p out through HDMI sucked like crazy (running an Indian bluray ripped .mkv file), installed the latest Intel graphics drivers, is far better but still dropping some frames. Suggestions for making it better? I mean, I will be updating it to dual channel 4GB memory, which should speed things up, but other than that...I'm not sure.

The ALPS touchpad drivers are WOEFULLY bad, so I'm using Synaptics now, and they work well. However, I have no idea how to get the multitouch gestures working...ideas?

I need to install the realtek audio drivers or update the intel ones...speakers are sadly pathetic either way though. Don't know if the card reader and webcam/mic work, but I think they should be okay, and Acer has downloadable drivers if they don't work.

    Guys,
Any ideas when the 1810T will be shipping in Asia? I look in all the famous computer shops in Malaysia and Singapore and couldn't find a trace of it...
It's a shame considering it comes from neighbouring Taiwan :)

    Thanks

64 bit = 2 trips to memory for every fetch if you are using one stick, 1 trip to memory for every fetch if you are using two sticks. This is mighty important for x64

I installed the latest synaptics driver from the synaptics site. All gestures are enabled.

Go to the tweaks site and install the 9/1 graphic driver. It will update the sound drivers also. Avoid the realtek drivers for now. The stock W7 x64 drivers work perfectly for your webcam and card-reader.

Install Windows Media Player Classic Home Cinema and use that for 1080p material. You need the Haali splitter for mkv. I have been getting very smooth, hardware accelerated HD (10% cpu load or so above ambient). But the source material matters. If the source material bounces off of the hardware and you are forced into software decode, all bets are off.

Does your CPU load go to 100%? If so there's something wrong.

To make sure the Indian rip is not the problem try the Bourne Ultimatum here:

Hey, I checked out the 1810Tz at http://www.benyouhui.com/thread-994585-1-1.html (use google translate to make it a little readable) and it seems the hard disk can not be replaced with another sata hard disk? Or is that just due to bad translating??

    Quotes:
as well as alternative hard disk interface, no way is estimated to be no place to put

The hard disk data is Ray line interface, no way to no place to put just such a design a little vibration and heat dissipation are not, faint ...

Are you 100% sure? Cause I don't see why it would say "alternative hard disk interface" then. I really hope you are right, otherwise this is a deal-breaker for me. I want my SSD in it ;)

I guess you must be sure, since you have the almost identical 1810t (or 1410 as they call it now)

I just called the shop in Hungary that has has the 1810TZ listed.

They said that it'll arrive tomorrow.

If it's true, then I'll be posting some benchmarks here tomorrow night.

I think they mean the adapter cable that it used. Just look at a pic where the HDD cover is removed. You can see an angled flat ribbon that is used to connect the sata drive to the PCB.

Amazon.com just reduced the price of only the Blue AS1410 from $450 US to $437 US. Seems a little weird.
Wonder if they are adjusting for the introduction of the 1810TZ?

Some great user reviews at Amazon, BTW

People use computers for a variety of tasks, including having a light, portable device to play movies on a 1080p tv at your friend's house.

It's a good idea to know what tasks you have in mind for a device, so that you know whether it fits your needs or not... Did I just become condescending?

Yes, there is a point, and don't apologize for people asking technical questions on a technical forum about tech products. It's like going to an engineering conference and complaining that specifications are useless, inaccessible math talk.

Not only is 1080p playback useful for connecting to my TV, also to my desktop monitor.

And the 1410 is more than powerful enough to playback 1080p mkv/H264.

I'm self-employed and I'm spending too much time checking the boards and doing research. It distracts me too much from work and I can't afford to do it like that another 1.5 months ;)
Today I ask myself why I wait for the dual core while the single core gets the job done and I had no appropriate answer, so I just bought it :D

The dual core will give better benchmark results, but in the end I won't recognize it in everyday use. The reviews and user experiences clearly show that su3500 is adequate for my usage scenario.

End of next year I'll get a 11.6" with dual core and dedicated graphics for the same price, I suppose. Then I'll upgrade again.

    a) Yes, check Timeline Tweaks.
    b) It'll require a hardware MOD. I'll try after I have check if my 1810t is OK.
    c) I don't know.

Okay, so with the Indian movie, it oscillates between 90 and 100%, lotta dropped frames, not quite watchable.

The Bourne trailer, the beginning is fine (smooth, 60-90% CPU usage), but the middle part is almost as bad as the Indian movie - dropped frames, 95-100% CPU usage not watchable.

This is in VLC, will switching media players make a difference? And what is this DXA stuff?

You absolutely need to use DXVA to watch these types of files - with some GPU assistance the CPU can't render them smoothly.

Thanks for the info on the NuShield DayVue. I ordered one myself, since I one of the reasons I'm getting this is so that I can use it outside as well as inside. I had never heard of them before, but they already have a protector for this model. It looks like it will really help, and was what I was looking for!

Right now you're watching 1080p on the CPU. DXVA off loads the decoding to the GPU. I'm not sure what the best way is to do it in Windows 7.

For Windows Vista the guide is included in the Timeline Tweaks link in my sig.

In Windows 7 WMP 12 is said to be best.

Bad news here in middle Europe... the shop, that should have the 1810TZ in stock tomorrow extended its deadline availability for another 48 hours...

    http://perifer.ekatalog.biz/zbozi/a...-su4100-3g-250-w-b-vhp/detail.aspx?p=z:157380

I am dissapointed especially after i have called them to check, if they can make it in time and have it in stock.

If they continue to extend the deadline every day by 24 hours i just loose my calm head and go buy a 1101HA.

Hopefully I will be able to say later in the week. I am hoping that brightness isn't affected indoors, but we shall see. It adheres electrostatically so at least it isn't a concern with it being permanent if I don't like the results.

I'll certainly post when I get mine.

While I know that this notebook is not for gaming, and I'm not buying it to game on since I have a very powerful desktop, I'm still wondering what games people who own the 1410 have tried. My ruby red one should be coming in tomorrow, so I'll put a few on it, but just wondering what other people's experiences have been so far.

I'm hoping I can play WoW at the very least so that I can do daily quests on the go. It would be nice if some old favorites like Kotor 2 and Oblivion also work. I'm not into FPS type games, but I do play the occasional new RPG like NWN2 and Titan Quest. Anyone tried any of those yet?

Weird, there's an A/V sync issue with 1080p videos using MPC Home Cinema and the CCCP codecs. 720p is just fine, but 1080p videos (including the Bourne trailer) are not synced properly, though they play smoothly. Any ideas as to why?

I should also have my NuShield later this week and I will report back on outdoor use. Glad I could provide some info. I have used these before on cell phones and they are generally pretty good.

I was worried about the BlueTooth but I picked up a $20 USB Bluetooth microplug and I don't even notice it. Half of the time my bluetooth is off anyway but this device gave me bluetooth and was immediately recognized in Win7. BTW, you can probably get these for <$10 on eBay.

That's not exactly correct. While I'm sure it's not permanent, unfortunately it also doesn't seem to be something one can remove and replace as needed. Here's a quote from Nushields website.

"NuShield films do not use adhesive for most applications where a standard screen bezel surrounds the display. The film is installed by inserting the edges between the case and screen. This mechanical attachment means that there is no possibility for trapped air to create bubbles. In applications where the screen is sealed, NuShield films use a 3/16” wide low tack adhesive strip around the film perimeter. The adhesive is removable and can be repositioned. NuShield DayVue antireflective film is an exception. This film requires the use of a full low tack adhesive on the film back surface to perform correctly".

I'm very interested in reading your feedback about this product, as I'm thinking of getting it myself. After I get my 1810TZ that is (fingers crossed). I too am curious about the effect it has when used indoors.

Oh, I must have misread the site then. I hope I can try it out before I "stick" it. I thought it used an electrostatic backing...hmmm. We shall see. I am most interested in how it performs in both indoor lighting and direct sun, now, if it uses a permanent adhesive.

OT: The sandwich in your avatar makes my mouth water.

Back on topic, I'll let you know when I get mine whether there appears to be a functional BT port. It's kind of fun getting in on the ground floor of a new machine. I'll benchmark as best I can and include the results for testing according to my needs. I mostly need it for browsing and word processing, with movies as a secondary concern. Youtube is a concern, though, because I watch a lot of flash stuff.

Gaming is not expected to be very good, but you can be sure that if it I own it, it will probably be tried, even if I have to use Swiftshader and 3dAnalyze to get them to start :D.
