To be honest the gain in battery life isn't that big, I'm not bothered by it. I have yet to see a 11.6" with DDR3 memory although I might not have been looking hard enough, it's once you hit 13,3" that they start to use DDR3 from my experience.

    Haha yeeeeeah. Go America :D

What does cause that huuuuge gap in prices though? Just import taxes? Because that is a LOT of taxation... You guys are almost paying 50% more sometimes...

Terrible? Well it's true it saves some power but even with DDR2 the 1810T gets easily to 8 hours.

All kind of taxes, I read.

But as you can se on dustin.. big swedish online shop.

Well.. i had another tought. because the su4100 has a rated fsb of 800.. and i tought that it was ddr3 with 1066mhz.

Maybe you could hardware mod it so the fsb on the cpu became 1066 :D

As the older pentium m :D

Im going to call dustin on monday to hear what the got so say.

    i know the gs45 chipset supports dr3

Like Phil said, it's definitely DDR2. 1810t and tz are identical except CPU. Check the Chinese site I posted a while ago.

Its simple , In America we just have to support spanish. In europe they have to support many diffrent languages in each country and that costs alot more. It needs to be localized for each country. So while the EU may make up a larger population (not sure about this ) than the USA , the USA is easier to support and sell too.

Also I believe that the prices we see for europe already have vat applied to them while in the USA we apply the sales tax afterwards. It still doesn't help that in some states there is no sales tax while in others there is up to8% sales tax. I believein europe some countrys have vat's as high as 30%

No tax on out of state orders, so those of us outside of NY who ordered from J&R electronics didn't have to pay tax, or shipping, and then got a cashback discount from Bing.

I'm about to take the plunge and get the 1410, but I'm still concerned about the size.

Any suggestions for another machine that is smaller than this, but better perfoming than an Atom below $500?

An interesting observation regarding weight. I know that my Aspire One with its 6cell is 200g lighter than my 1810t but actually the 1810t feels lighter. Because of the larger size you expect the 1810t to be heavier than it actually is. The Aspire One is more dense and feels heavy for its size.

On a sidenote, I once asked 3 friends to distinguish between Asus 1000H (1.45kg) and Samsung NC10 (1.30kg). None of them could say which one was lighter. When I told them to guess two of them guessed wrong, one right.

On a sidenote: I just bought a black 1410 from J&R through Amazon. 439.99 Shipped. The black one seems to be a little cheaper right now for some reason. Get em while you can boys!

I'm having wifi troubles with my Acer 1410 running Windows 7. It just wont connect. I updated bios, updated to the intel 5100 wireless driver.

Clues: When I move the toggle switch to turn on the wifi, it briefly flashes orange but is otherwise off. Is there a key combo to turn on Wifi?

What's wierd is that I can see the access points in range, I enter my WPA security key, and I know it's right and working because another win7 laptop can connect to wifi.

Every time I try to connect it says, WIndows was unable to connect to network.

Any ideas what i'm not doing correctly?

Is this an upgrade or a fresh install of Win7? I did a fresh install of 64 bit Win7 RTM and haven't had any problems with WiFi. I also just installed the 64 bit drivers for the 5100 and it seems fine. If you did an upgrade I would suggest a fresh install where you blow everything away. It sounds like something got munged (btw, I did have to install Win7 twice b/c a bad flash install was unrecoverable).

Someone posted something interesting on a German site. He istalled Vista 64bit on his 3810t and it worked with the key on the bottom of his device which was delivered with 32bit Vista.

Just thinking about the possibility that MS doesn't distinguish between 32bit and 64bit versions.

Does anyone have more info on this?

I just received a 1410 and within 5 hours the wireless card doesn't work.

I'm completely miffed. I look in device manager, and it says a network controller exists, but no drivers (not the atheros or intel) recognize any device. Both installers seem to believe the wireless card isn't there.

I pulled it out and re-seated it, nothing.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to further trouble shoot it? It was working earlier before I started futzing with the wireless disable key underneath. I can't help but think it may have broken in the off position.

    Any suggestions?

Bios has not been updated, running 3108

When I move the wireless cutoff switch, shouldn't the little orange indicator LED be flashing?

*EDIT* I went through and reinstalled drivers from the eRecovery portion and it works again. Hmmph.

I received my 1410 a few days ago. Took me quite a while to get it running smoothly with the original OS and all of its bloat but I'm rather happy with it now (Also running 4gb of Corsair DDR2 800mhz "CM4GSDSKIT800D2 G"). It came with the original bios so I upgraded to the newer one without any trouble from within Vista x86. I also made a backup of the stock system using VirtualCD and the Acer eRecovery program. Slightly complicated, but worked well after I figured it out.

The only thing that I had a problem with was when I installed the original batch of Windows updates the computer froze (from lack of battery life I think) during the end of the update process and I was forced to roll back to a restore point to get it to boot properly again (That should teach me to refrain from doing any windows updates if I'm unsure of battery life). The laptop also froze for me again today while Battery Bar said it had another 45 minutes left. This was at around 18% battery life. When it freezes like this it just displays whatever was on the screen at the time of freeze, indefinitely. Is this normal? Maybe the battery just needs to be broken in a bit more to get better readings.

I received my neoprene case from DealExtreme today and I have to say it fits this thing wonderfully. The case does have the word "ThinkPad" on the front, which is not displayed in the web pictures. It took 12 days to arrive with the free shipping. But for the price and the great fit, it's a real deal!

I tried a few games on this to see what would work well. First, Braid runs rather poorly. I think the game is just very unoptimized. Second, World of Goo runs great, even at the native 1366x768 resolution. I'm going to try Dungeon Fighter Online during the open beta this week and see how that runs on this. I'm pretty sure it will perform rather well.

I hope this is not the 751h freezing syndrome.
The booting problem might be caused by corrupted files since it froze during the update process. It would be interesting to know if the freeze was really caused by low bat. Please open a new thread if this problem persist.

Just leech a 64bit version and use the upgrade key.

Well SU3500 will beat the SU4100 in all applications that don't use multiple cores. Quite a lot.

It also has 3MB vs. 1MB cache.

    Hi everyone

Posting First time in this tread and I have an Acer 1810T to which I buyed here in sweden for near 715 us dollars. It came with 3 gig (which I upgraded to 4 gig of DDR2 mem )of memory and 250 gig Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD2500BEVT 8MB HD and Vista home premium pre-installed.
I'm very happy with this little netbook and it's fast enough for my everyday work and for watching occasionally some xvid movie on the move.

I tested it with X86 windows 7 and everything is working just out of box with it and I hooked up my Sony 46" LCD TV on the HDMI and watched some swedish HD TV shows on the web and it worked flawlessly. Didn't tried youtube HD content but it feels that this little machine can play the most of one can imagine.

Have had Asus eepc 1000H before and I must say that this acer is a way better performer in almost anything and it going to stay long as my all around netbook. :)

p.s. very impressive and informative thread, cudos to you guys :D

I agree, this device is awesome :) And think about the fact that we are kind of early adopters. I'm sure that there will be even more imrovements, hacks and tweaks down the road that will make this thing even more enjoyable ;)

Thanks for the suggestion dbasham, I've used Corsair before and I trust em, plus they give free shipping from Amazon so I saw a few bucks.

    Man, I'm so cheap :p

according to one Newegg review, it came up as 5-5-5-18

    Imo, not too bad.

Plus, the 5-5-5-15 timing RAM I linked above has several reviews, like 3-4 at least, where people are complaining about only getting 5-5-5-18 timings anyway. There's a manufacturer's response that it might be a misprint or something? Whatever, I'm not going to go bananas over that difference. I'm just going with the well reviewed, recommended by someone on these forums who's actually using it with no problems, from a company I've used and trust, and slightly cheaper option. :p

CPUID confirms CL 5, tRCD 5, tRP 5, tRAS 18 and tRC 23 with a DRAM frequency of 399 Mhz and FSB DRAM of 1:2, dual channel symmetric.

BTW, I have purchased these from both ZipZoomFly and Amazon in the past (this time was both, long story). I would check to see who has the best price. I also bought my Seagate 7200 rpm 320 GB HD from ZipZoomFly.

Congratulations on your purchase though I would've suggested you to wait as the 1810TZ is now available in Sweden with a SU4100 (2 cores) and 320GB of HDD space for 6000SEK which I'll be buying myself on monday ^^.
Glad that you're happy with your machine though!

    Hi Azuricate and marse,
We will wait for your tests to compare the benchmarks with the SU3500 ;)
I am waiting for the SU4100 too, I need it for image procesing (Photoshop and Capture NX) and I think with the 2 cores those programs will run much faster in the SU4100.
In Spain there are some places you can buy the 1810T but not the 1810TZ :( at this moment

Thanks bro, I'm more then satisfied with the 1810T performance and thought I would love to get the TZ with dual core it's not an option because I buyed it from " ONOFF" ( for 1000sek cheaper :D ) and they don't have a return policy when you broke the package. I didn't know that time that the dual core is coming and it was the last Acer 1810T they had on the shelf and it was just crying out to BUY ME
I looking forward for your rapport on your purchase and test results when you get your Acer :)

@der_mali : thanks for your welcome and I hope that I going to enjoy staying and I seeing forward for some cool tweaks and hacks for this awesome comp and I going to try contribute to this community as much as I can

I am waiting for these dual cores to hit the states. I have a LT-3103u and love the form factor but would love more punch than the su3500 offers. I may need to wait for the su9400 or su9600 before I pull the triger.

I was about to pull the triger, just today, on an Asus 14" ultra portable with a T6500 but I couldn't do it. when I was first shopping for a portable coming from a Gateway 17" these two, 11.3 and 14, seemed very similar. After 3 weeks on the 11.3" it is hard to justify a larger form factor. Even the 14" seemed huge............

Hi, I'm eyeing the 1810tz but in Portugal it's probably a long time from launch date (if it comes here) so I have the opportunity to buy a 12" HP elitebook 2530p for 600€.. How does it compare to these new 11.6 CULV's?

I would take a look at the weight and battery life as important factors. I just took a quick look at the tech specs and they seem comparable enough. The Tz gets a lot of use from a single charge though, couldn't find numbers for the HP. Also, it might only be a half inch difference in screen size, but that can mean almost a pound in weight sometimes. Seeing as how this is in netbook territory, weight is important.

I think the specs put it at 6h30min and 3.5 lbs.

Another option I found was the toshiba portege R500, they were pretty expensive but prices have dropped in the last months.

Laptop froze again a few times earlier. The battery had a 50% charge too, so it definitely wasn't from that. I've disabled the epower management to see if perhaps that's effecting it. I'm really at a loss though. Could this be caused by a bad battery not supplying a good static rating?

If it was the battery, the laptop wouldn't freeze, it would just automatically shut down. First I would remove the RAM upgrade and check if it still freezes. If it does, I would roll back to a stock installation through eRecovery. If the problem persists I would return it under warranty.
