I dont know about WiFi working with Vista. The first thing I did was format that POS OS off of the machine.
However, I changed the access point from WPA Personal to WEP and wireless works, but I dont trust WEP, and would prefer a more secure connection method.
I am using the supplied windows 7 64bit driver for the Wifi Link 5100 chip, and windows says that I am running the latest version of the driver.
I havn't found any Windows 7 drivers on Acer or Intel's website yet.
-
-
I did do a fresh/complete install of Win7 vs any upgrade installs, since we all know how well MS os upgrades work.
Where did you get your 64bit drivers for the Intel 5100 link?
Thanks! -
I had the exact same problem as you. I solved it by disabling the Afterburner feature in my router settings.
-
Has anyone installed a SSD drive and compared battery life?
-
I've recently installed a corsair 128gb ssd but haven't really tested battery life. I don't think there will be too much difference.
-
Folks,
Just got the 1410 tonight at BJs wholesale club. I have a spare OCZ dual channel kit (2x2GB) PC2 5400 RAM ( http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-PC2-5400-667MHz-SoDIMM-OCZ2MV6674GK/dp/B000RZDFPU). I was wondering if this is going to be compatible with the 1410.
If not can I just install another 2GB module ( http://bit.ly/Amazon_Crucial_RAM) and hope for better performance?
Thanks. -
Disabling afterburner on my Linksys WRT54GS running Tomato firmware worked like a champ. I can now connect my Acer 1410 to my wifi running WPA!!!
Thanks so much for the solution! -
Wish I could claim the credit - the problem was driving me nuts for days then kegobeer found the solution:

What do you think of the system. I am thinking of selling my Dell XPS 1330 and getting a 1410 with a 32GB Corsair SSD. Also do you have access to Windows 7? Would love to know how it runs with Win 7.
-
That OCZ is not going to work. The 1410 uses DDR3 and the OCZ is DDR2
-
... what? It definitely uses DDR2. I'm looking at the spec sheet right now.
-
Is anyone having file sharing problems? I can not seem to connect to this netbook from my desktop but with my other laptop is fine. I checked all settings and still nothing. The error message is x drive is not accessible.... logon failure. I enable file sharing and am on the same workgroup with the same os running.
-
Uhh.. no it definitely uses DDR2. The OCZ will be fine.
-
My corsair is first gen. The 2nd gen corsairs are faster so you might notice more performance boost. Myself and a lot of others in this thread are running Windows 7. I have no problems using Win 7 RTM 64bit. I didn't have to install a single driver for any hardware. Only thing I installed was the acer launcher and will be trying out the epower management software later.
-
you guys are right. My bad, but thats good as DDR2 is cheaper then DDR3. I am really looking hard at this notebook.
-
The Acer will be a tad smaller (and perhaps lighter) than the HP, but the build-quality on the HP will be miles ahead of anything that Acer produces. IMHO if you can get an Elitebook for that small premium I'd jump on it right away. It's a laptop made for business users who place high demands on their kit and it's built to take the abuse that comes with being constantly mobile.
My limited experience with Acer and that of my friends who have purchased them in the past tells me that they might match business class notebooks on specs, but when it comes to build quality they're not even in the same league as an Elitebook. -
The 2520p uses an SL processor with 17W TDP and the screen contrast is very low.
-
I don't know if we're talking about the same notebook, but notebookreview wrote in their review of the 2530p:
Pros
* Attractive and sleek design.
* Extreme durability in an extremely small package.
* Excellent overall performance in its class.
* Fantastic screen with good viewing angles and excellent brightness.
* Great port selection for a 12-inch notebook.
* Small form factor and low weight WITH an optical drive!
* Excellent battery life for road warriors.
Cons
* Less than ideal location for tiny mono-speaker.
* Fan can run a little loud.
* Too much bloatware for a business notebook.
* HP won't let me keep it.
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4663&p=2
Bottom line is: If you want the Acer for the modding community, you need 8 hours of battery life instead of 6,5 or you'll be using the HDMI a lot then wait for it.
If build quality or performance is more important to you then get the HP.
Where did you see it for 600? Here in Denmark I can't seem to find them anywhere near that cheap. -
Taken from Notebookjournal.de:
2530p
contrast @100cd/m2 143:1
contrast @full brightness 164:1
battery eater: 262min
1810t
contrast @100cd/m2 185:1
contrast @full brightness 199:1
battery eater: 340min
I suppose that he can get a used 2530p for 600€. -
Unfortunately Notebookreview does not measure screen quality.
Notebookjournal does. The HP 2530p is only 180 nits bright. Just like the Acer.
I've owned both HP 2530p and Acer 1810T. Both are mediocre screens. -
Great stats. I checked the site out also and their reviews are better than most english speaking sites I've come across.
If the HP is used I'd recommend getting the Acer.
-
Do you know if they just started carrying this at BJ's? I checked the web site and didn't see it on there. What were they charging for it??
-
Can someone test this clip with the Acer 1810T or 1410 SU3500 clocked on 800 Mhz?
-
Looks like a great review of the 1810TZ at this Korean site.
Lots of testing results, great photos, 1080p MPEG2, plus lots of video & games performance.
Too good to not mention, but "Google Translate" doesn't work.
Err.. just noticed many more pages.
It goes on and on. Page 2 has total disassembly. -
lol
Actually this is my favourite hardware punishment clip that I used to check my overclocked Atom's performance
No chance on su3500(Vista/Firefox 3.5) -
Good to know. Does it play smooth on 1.6Ghz?
Maybe you can share your experience here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=417342&page=5 -
su3500 can't run at 800Mhz(I don't know the SuperLFM mode frequency, though). I knew the clip so I tried directly at 1.4, I doubt that it will play 100% smooth on a 1.6GHz, either. Flash is just a perfect example for crappy coding
Btw, my gut feeling benchmark places su3500 on par with a theoretical Atom 2.5GHz in everyday tasks. -
after two weeks of using the 1810T I have to send it in for service
the M button on the keyboard doesn't work no more...looks like the spring is broken -
Hi All,
This is my first post here. I have not decided wheter to buy 1810T or 3810T.
In Indonesia the spec for 1810T is :
- SU3500
- 2GB DDR2
- 320GB
USD 699
3810T
- SU3500
- 2GB DDR3
- 500GB
USD 749
What do you think? Which one to choose? I like the model and material of 3810T more than
1810T. Is there any other factor I should consider? Please advise... -
I have a question concerning the color of the 1810t. Probably the blue one isn't as sensitive for fingerprints etc. as the black one, is it? I think on the black one you will see them much more.
-
lol
What a great find!
-
I am sure you get better answers from others, but still: I thought about that too for some time, for me, it was a question of size (and weight to some extent) - so i am leaning towards the 1810
An argument for the 3810 though: the keyboard feels slightly better imo... -
Well weight and screensize.
I actually prefer 13", but I prefer the weight of 1810T. So it's more likely I'll get the 1810T. -
That's some pretty serious netbook pr0n right there on page 2.....
Built-in Bluetooth, HDMI connector, 3 USB, pretty sweet all-around and in my opinion there's nothing comparable in that
netbook-class form factor with dual-core that's out right now. (or is there?)
So in some ways it should really raise the bar and force everyone else to finally go beyond the anemic Atom offerings,
and pack enough processing punch to display HD video without too many dropped frames.
Only thing I can see is putting a 7200 rpm drive in there and waiting a bit for Windows 7 to ship with it...

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
That Korean review is amazing. Looking at the photos really makes me want to sell my 3810 for the Nehalem version of the 1810 (hopefully it comes out soon next year), but then again my 3810 is set up perfectly with 7/Vista/Ubuntu. I just installed Ubuntu and for the first time of any install I have an Ubuntu with everything working perfectly. Yet, I love the small size of the 1810. This decision is hard.
-
Thank you very much LFDM & Phil.. Actually the weight should not be an issue for me.. It's more to the screen size and the 1810T also include an external DVD-RW drive but I don't really like the shiny glossy screen & body on 1810T.
In terms of performance, is there any difference between those two? It's going to be used for browsing with many tabs, doing some photoshop, watching movies, and playing some mp3s.
How about the touch pad? Are they the same? the feel and sensitivity? I also read on 3810T thread that the single bar click button on 3810T is too stiff? how about those in 1810T? Thank you. -
With the same specs, they'll perform the same.
Slightly different material but both are good. -
I'd go with an SSD!
-
Thank you Phil! I'm currently looking at your review and will decide it later.. amazing thread you got here...
-
Hello, I should be getting my 1810T tomorrow or day after that..
Wondering if I should install win 7 pro 64bit or 32bit on it
I have win 7 pro 64 installed on my stationary and havent had issues but are there any weird drivers or stuff on the 1810T that wont work on 64bit?
The performance gain on the 1810t is probably next to none but its nice to have the same software across all the platforms I own so
To x64 or not to x64? -
The 600 HP2530p was used, but I can find it for 720 in 2 or 3 portuguese retailers. Right now I'm divided between this and waiting to see the fall releases with W7.
-
Wictor, please do not post the same message in two threads. It is against the forum rules.
-
Not really. People have been making drivers for Vista 64 for a long while not and I think all Vista drivers work for Win7. If you plan on putting 4GB of RAM in the 1810, which is recommended since its so cheap and easy, then you need the x64 anyway.
-
You don't need to run x64 with 4GB. It gives more usable RAM but that hardly matters. With 32 bit you can use about 3.4GB, the rest will be used for the X4500.
As far as I know with 32 bit the fan control works better, so I would choose 32 bit. -
Hello, I am thinking in buying the 1810TZ. I will use it for quick image processing after some basketball games to send the photos to the agency, in the same court.
I will use the program Capture NX (I use Nikon bodies), but I am not shure if this program is optimized for dual cores. (I'm not shure but I think multi-threath optimization is different from single or dual core optimization). The question i'd like to know if this program is optimized for multi-cores, so the SU4100 will be quicker then (if not the SU3500 will be quicker !). I'd tried to change the afinity of the program to 1 core to 4 cores in the Administration Manager in Windows 7 64b in my PC but I didn't see great difference.
Can somebody help me? Thanks
Capture NX uses more process power than Photoshop CS4 -
Sorry about that - just thought I would get more replies that way.. my bad
Will probably go with x86 because of SmartFAN but thanks guys!
-
FYI, I have had ZERO problems with fan noise and I am running 64 bit Win7 with 4 GB of RAM. I think that the 64 bit code for Windows is just plain better (it certainly was in Vista) so I highly recommend a clean install of 64 bit Win7 code. Just my 2 cents.
-
My 1410 is still freezing up seemingly randomly. I'll be thinking it's working fine, then I'll look away and look back and try to move the mouse and nothing works and the screen is frozen. Can anyone suggest anything that could be causing this? I'm using all of the newest drivers from manufacturer's websites so I doubt those would be the problem. I'm slowly uninstalling any programs that I normally use on a desktop to see if they are causing the issue. No luck yet. Ugh, it's driving me crazy...
If it comes down to it i'll do a fresh vista x64 install from a usb and work from there. Maybe I'll try using it in safemode for a while (not that i'll be able to do very much) before that. -
Just bite the bullet and do a fresh instal of 64 bit Win7. I think you said you had already done a fresh install but if I recall you encoutered some sort of power down during the install. I am running 64 bit Win7 with no problems. If if you keep getting these freezes after a fresh install I suspect that you have a hardware problem.
-
Yep, like I said earlier, it might be best to remove the RAM upgrade and check with the stock module for a while. Usually you get a blue screen when the RAM is faulty but you never know.
