4-4-4-12 DDR2-800 SO-DIMMs are rare and expensive. While it would be an interesting comparison, I can't see people spending $200 to replace the memory in their systems.

My 1810T arrived today (using it now to post). I had an Acronis 2010 build 6029 ISO image ready to go on a DVD. I booted to this DVD before booting to Win7 and Acronis loaded OK. I made an initial Day 0 image.
Then I booted into Win7, removed the Acer bloatware, installed 64-bit Microsoft Security Essentials plus some other basics, and made another Acronis image. I ran the verification on both images and they look good.
So far so good, but I have not tried making a bootable Acronis USB drive yet. I'll try that in the days to come. I think I will follow the advice I've seen to only use Acronis for backup images & restores, not all the new gadgets they've added to the software.
My BartPE disk booted up fine, but when I ran DriveImageXML it could not see the 1810T's C: drive. I booted into Win7 and ran DriveImageXML natively but it still could not see the C: drive. Maybe I have some permission set wrong or something, I don't know. At this point I have to rely on Acronis. Wish I could test how well it would do a restore without actually having to do one. -
Sorry for the extra post, but does anyone happen to know where the info about adding bluetooth to the 1810T was? I remember reading it in this topic, but with more than 330 pages... (I'm mainly talking about the exact type of bluetooth modules that can be used.)
-
Just got a notification that my Windows 7 cd has shipped. I hope it's a smooth install.
-
I thought it was the 1410 that did not have bluetooth...? The J&R 1810 page lists it as having integral bluetooth. I haven't messed with that on mine yet.
-
That page also says it has 4 GB ram but the specs say only 3. Also the specs say the screen size is 15.6". So does it really have bluetooth?
-
Does anyone else have issues with electrical noise? I have a decent amount of buzz in:
1) Headphones
2) Mic port
3) Built in microphone
It is probably related to the ribbon cable stretching across the palm rest, and I'm hoping that opening it up and reconnecting the cable will fix it. Has anyone else run into this, and have you found a fix? -
Are you referring to this post?

All important info is in Timeline Tweaks.
@noise
lepton had the same problem. I don't remember if he fixed it though. -
Me too! Although I'm running Win7 already. It's a great OS.

The 1810T-352G16N that Acer is selling in Belgium has the su3500, a 160GB hdd and no bluetooth...
Yes I am!!! Thank you!
Thanks
I will probably add one of those bluetooth modules when I get my 1810T. The little usb bluetooth dongles are cheap and easy, but they can't be switched off as far as I know, which will take too much of my battery. -
Right, bad choice on the source there. The Acer 1810T page lists "up to 4Gb RAM" and "Bluetooth® 2.1 + EDR (enhanced data rate) wireless PAN". The label on my 1810T says "4Gb Memory" and the system info in Win7 says "Installed memory (RAM): 4.00 GB".
I just turned on the bluetooth on my 1810T before posting this and connected it with my cellphone. It's working. -
Good news, J&R did not charge me a restock fee for exchanging the 1410 for the 1810T. They only charged me the $200 difference in price, and no extra shipping. Hard to beat!

I have bought an internal 5 bin bluetooth module from ebay, 19,90$.
Now we'll see how it goes: it ships from the USA and I live in spain.. I'll report back once I've mounted it! -
Which one did you buy? I'm planning to do the same thing, but it would be nice to avoid buying the wrong module or wire, so please try it asap

Return it for sure. I definitely would. Looks basically bent. Currently struggling with a high pitched noise coming from wifi chip. So watch out with Acer (also returned the Gateway version of this a week ago with a flickering screen and shoddy build quality), the quality control is clearly poor.
-
My AS1410 is fine, but that has been brought up before. I wonder if you were to loosen the screws on the bottom if it would "relax" to the correct position?
-
I have been getting really annoyed by the high pitched noise coming from the wi-fi chip - opened up the case and can hear it clearly coming from here. Noise is also picked up through headphone port.
So I decided I would return the laptop as I only bought it 10 days ago from Staples. However, after reinstalling windows as the easiest way to clear the system and my meager amount of data I realise that the noise has stopped entirely.
So I think what the hell and decide to mount my backup image back on the drive, but low and behold the noise is back.
What software/system issue could be causing what appears to clearly be a hardware fault?
Should I just return the laptop anyway? Or reinstall windows, reinstall my programs and see if the problem reoccurs (try and delimit which program, if any, causes it)? -
Mine is not as bad, but same problem, one of the bottom corners is raised. Doesn't bother me since I'll rarely use my 1410 on a flat surface. I'll try the screw trick tomorrow.
-
Hello all..
This is an off-the-wall question....I assume the case will be a fingerprint magnet... Which case color will tend to show less fingerprints, the black or the blue ?
Thanks, -
Today I received a direct email response from Acronis regarding the problem I reported booting Acronis 2010 rescue media via USB drive. Their suggestion was to try the latest build #6029, which I had already done earlier this week. This worked fine via an external DVD drive but I haven't yet tried using build #6029 to make Acronis rescue media on a USB drive.

Update on the warped chasis. I went to try the screw trick, but first put my 1410 on a level surface to see what corner it was, and the flexing is gone. Could be it sorted it self out from usage .
-
My thought was that maybe the chassis was warped during assembly and by loosening the screws it might "relax" and then you could snug the screws up.
Maybe it settled into place with use? -
Anyone else notice that battery charging while the system is in use takes about twice as long since upgrading to Windows 7?
-
Yeah, I have a free easy fix for that that takes 2 seconds with no tools required. PM me.
-
Wow thats interesting, does that only happen if the battery is in there or something? I didn't notice anything like that with the Fry's display model they had, but it also didn't have its battery in there.
-
How about sharing with all of us? I can't think of any reason to do say it in PM instead of here on the forums. It might help other people too...
@Just Lou: but your autonomy on a fully charged battery stayed the same? very strange... -
He already posted how he solved it. He just took the device in his hands and bent it in the opposite direction. Interestingly his original post is gone
I don't know what this secret keeping is all about
-
ow, right, I read that somewhere in this topic, but I didn't know it was this guy who said it.
Has any of you already did some testing about which OS would result in the best autonomy for the 1810T su3500? I already read that win7 would be a bit better (both in performance as in autonomy). I also read the tweaking thread, but I was wondering what the possibilities were with ubuntu, either the normal version or the netbook remix (or linux mint).
If there's nobody who already compared these, I will try to do it in the next few weeks if I find the time. Feel free to remind me to this promise via PM, but not before the 15th of November. -
Maybe he spams the person with a url that makes him money?
-
Or maybe he cracked the LCD and he's trying to get a RMA!
-
I'm trying to install Win7 from an external hard drive (not flash). I have mounted it as an image in daemon tools then copied all the CD data to a partition on the hard drive, which is set as primary and active. However, when I try to boot from it I get an NTLDR error message. Anyone know why this is the case? It appeared to do the same thing when I tried to boot linux for the sake of restoring a backup the other day. However, when using a flash drive there is no problem. I just only have a 2gb flash drive!
Please help. -
You could try Microsoft's ISO tool to make the external HDD bootable:
http://store.microsoft.com/Help/ISO-Tool
It works for flash drives, maybe it works for HDDs, too. -

No, not at all- I have a long list of nice people who've sent me PM's and I've helped out with a simple reply message.Mikroft said: ↑Maybe he spams the person with a url that makes him money?Click to expand...

I'll lurk on here and reply when people have warped bottom half sections, it's easier to respond to a new person that asks because they won't review 350 pages.
One person on here will check this silly/random thread every 2 minutes and is pretty psycho, has issues, and takes things personally because he wasn't smart enough to think of the solution. So I'm trying to avoid too much posting because his feelings get hurt and I know how to deal with stalkers who will follow all of my posts and respond to each one to make himself feel better.
Pretty sad, I know. But there is a serious crazy guy who posts A LOT in this thread! -

This is directed at me I suppose. I think what started this is my response to your post in the Win7 Upgrade thread. I'm sorry for having been harsh. It was a reflex to your seemingly trollish comment to a random post of someone who was unhappy about the communications regarding the upgrade. I apologize and will try to do better in the future.ethos76 said: ↑One person on here will check this silly/random thread every 2 minutes and is pretty psycho, has issues, and takes things personally because he wasn't smart enough to think of the solution. And to my role on these boards I have to say that I'm just a random enthusiast who likes to gather every tiny bit of info when I'm interested in something. It's just the way I work. Im a community guy and don't aim at anything else than sharing info with others.
You can do what you want and I will think twice before I post something that might hurt other's feelings in the future. If you want to share your info about what you did to cure the warp I will happily post it in Timeline Tweaks. If you want to help people via PM instead it's ok, too. -
One more datapoint here, my 1810T sits perfectly flat on a table surface. Man I am really liking this little computer!
-
Does anyone know if the 1810T has some kind of "smart charging" logic where it stops applying a charge to a battery that is full? A friend was telling me that a non-smart charging computer will make the battery fail earlier, in that it won't want to hold a charge well. I'm not sure what terms to use to describe it.
-
It's a smart charger. It will stop at 100% and start charging again after it has dropped a few percent. If it is at 100% and you keep the charger plugged in it will run from mains alone. So no need to remove the battery if you use it while plugged in.
-
But the manual suggests you take out the battery if running off the mains to prolong it's life.
I think what happens is that charging stops when fully charged, but resumes again if the charge falls below a certain value. For long periods operating off the mains, the battery will be charged and discharged over narrow limits and this may affect its life. -
This battery life vs. cycles business seems to be quite controversial.
Here's a blog posting from someone's interaction with Apple technicians, who apparently recommend regular charge/discharge cycles to keep a battery healthy. I am assuming here that the make of the laptop shouldn't really matter with regards to the core technology/science behind the batteries. -

How many people do you actually think keep track of removing and discharging batteries to prolong its life? -
Hey guys,
is this the right battery for the AS1410-8807? It says ASPIRE 1410 on the title but I don't want to waste $60.
