Sorry... This battery only fits the 3-year old 14" or 15" Acer Aspire 1410. To be sure, look for a battery that fits the 1810.
Photo is the older Aspire 1410.
(I posted at the same time as the previous post, BTW)

This example describes one of two extremes. One extreme is letting it run down till it dies every time and the other extreme is having it plugged in all the time. Neither is practical nor healthy for the battery. If you don't use the device as a desktop replacement there is no need to take out the battery. The self discharge rate of Li-ION batteries is very low so it takes a fairly long while till charging kicks in again when plugged in and the battery is full. At that point it wouldn't make a difference for the battery if it is inside the device or lying on the table.

Thank you. I have read of people using 5600 mAh (i guess that's a 8 cell?) on our 1410. Is this the maximum it can go?
Is there no 9 cells? -
Right now 5600mAh is the maximum available, but there are rumors of 9 cell batteries coming in the future.
-
Does anyone know any where else to get the UM09E36 or 5600mAh 1810 battery from than cheap-laptop-batteries (aus, US, CDN, UK sites)?? I wonder if anyone carries the US only 751 keyboard as well so I can save on shipping? -
Doesn't work for HDDs. -
A friend of mine did the following:
Formatted a 10GB partition on the external USB hard drive as NTFS, Primary Partition.
Then made it Active.
Unpacked the .iso over to the partition with 7-zip.
There is a file in Boot catalog called bootsect.exe. Run the command "bootsect.exe /nt60 E:" (if E: is your external drive).
According to him, your external hard drive should now be bootable.
Boot from USB.
Hope this can work for you too. -
I just installed tiny7 and I am booting up in 60 seconds approx... Coming from an atom n270 netbook, 60 seconds is nearly 3 times longer, what boot times are you guys getting, am I an outlier?
-
Just trying to decide on which installation to go with. How do you find tiny7, looks tempting? But not entirely sure what features are lost.
Also, I just replaced my 1410 with a new one as the other's wi fi chip was making a high pitched noise. However, I have just mounted my backup image and this one is doing the same. It does indeed appear to be some software issue causing this fault. Has anyone any idea what it could be? It doesn't make the noise on a clean Vista install.
I'm guessing the best way to proceed may be by doing a clean Win7 install, but it just takes forever to install all the programs I require. -
Also: is there any way to make tiny7 legitimate? It is, from what I am aware, an unattended installation, but as we have license keys...
-
i am getting a lot of background interference on my headphones from the 3.5mm headphone jack, even without playing anything. Can someone please tell me which sound chip the as1410 is using so i can upgrade its drivers, right now I am on the windows 7 sound drivers! I pray its just a case of bad drivers.
The hissing is directly altered by changes in processing activity too. -
I installed the Realtek audio driver. How do I uninstall it and get the stock driver?
-
What is with the 12GB unknown partition from the 1410 ? Should I leave it untouched ?
-
It's the recovery partition.
-
Thats the "System Restore to Factory state" partition. It installs the OS and other factory installed sw in the shape it came to you. Unless you know what you are doing, it should probably be left alone
-
I had the same problem and someone on this board suggested that I "shake" the laptop while it was off. Strangely enough, it worked and I don't hear the hissing sounds anymore...go figure...
-
One way is to download the new drivers. The first step during the install removes the drivers and then reboots. You have to start the installer to reinstall the new drivers. Just skip that step.
You could also delete the sound devices in Device Manager. It should put the Microsoft ones back after a reboot.
I did try this and notice a difference in processor load on my SU2300. I haven't tested the battery life but since processor load affects battery life, it makes sense.
The other one I noticed a lot of CPU usage is for mouse movements. If you shake the mouse, around the screen, CPU usage stays 15-25%. Not sure I notice that with my desktop so that has me curious. -
Recently installed Win7. Does anyone know what drivers are needed for the webcam? I am currently using the Windows stock drivers, which are fine, but lack any of the Acer enhancements and additional configuration options. I've tried all the ones on the Acer site for both Win7 and Vista but none of them seem to work and Windows just says that its drivers are best.

In an earlier post, I believe it said that once you burn recovery discs, this partition becomes unusable. Is that true?
-
I doubt it. Why should the partition become unusable? Kind of a self destruct sequence?
-
The Recovery Partition works after creating the discs....... but you can create the discs only once.... so its a partial self destruct i guess
-
I don't think so, either. eRecovery is still working fine and asks for disks to burn. -
Sorry, my mistake .... it IS working .. so we can make as many recovery disks as we want!!
-
I think prikolchik said this in a major post of his that I thought was in the "Acer Free Windows 7 Upgrade" thread, but I can't get into or find this thread any more. Is it gone?
-
It seems it has been deleted. I put a link in Timeline Tweaks and it isn't working any more. I had made a screenshot to save the info in case it gets deleted because of that hacker tool used
No such info in that post
-
Err.. my response might be off, but I've decided to leave it for its info.
Not sure if you are talking about this rather spectacular posting by Prikolchik.
[GUIDE] Clean install of Windows 7 on Acer (passes offlne OEM activation)
And was this the questionable hacker tool?
Seems pretty harmless to me. I don't know.
"Download a tool called SLIC Dump Toolkit."
at http://rapidshare.com/files/305387416/SLIC_Dump_ToolKit.EXE
"Save it somewhere and then right click on SLIC_Dump_ToolKit.EXE and select Run as Administrator. Click on the Advanced tab located at the bottom. Check if in SLIC Diagnostics for Version it says 2.1." -
First I added a link to prikolchik's post from that deleted thread to Timeline Tweaks and later I added the link to his guide.
It was called "Windows 7 loader extreme edition". I made a screenshot cause the post included pictures
-
I don't think it was deleted. What happened was that there was someone spamming the thread with some iPhone video encoding software and I reported that post as spam. And right after I did that the thread dissapeared
My guess is that it is simply in quarantine waiting for mods to remove the spam posts.
As for that hacker tool, there is absolutely no need to use it anymore. It can all be done in two simple one-line commands, like described in my new guide. -
Yeah, great guide, thanks for that
I got my Win7 upgrade a few days ago and will install it when I have time. The guide comes at the proper time

Hi all,
Just chiming in to let you know that after many thoughts I went for the SU3500 with vista (vs the dual core ...). Mainly for the low voltage and better cache.
I use my laptop (after a Lenovo S10 with 2 6-cell batteries) for school (Onenote, Seamonkey and Word among other stuff).
I have to say that I was worried at first. But Vista (after SP2 and enabling the "classic windows" look), is working pretty neat (and waiting for the free upgrade to come ...).
The battery indicator from the tweak page (thanks!), is neat.
I got a real 6h30min+ of usage every day (and still have some reminder at the end of the day). The 6 cell is amazing, and am already thinking of getting the 8 cell one
The laptop is light and not that difficult to be used to the keyboard.
One complain will be the glossy screen (way more reflective than any of my previous laptop).
I got this one thanks to you in this thread (that I have read extensively before jumping in) and I am not regretting it. It has been about 1 week and I am really happy.

I'm also very happy with my 1810t su3500, it was a very good buy
-
Yes: 8 cell, 9 cell any inside news about those batteries coming available for the 1[4,8]10t?
-
Me Toooooooooooooooooo
-
already here!
http://www.cheap-laptop-batteries.com/laptop-battery/acer-um09e36.htm
at 86$. Some on the forum already have it. I don't know about the battery life, but extending what I am getting now, I will guess (for myself) about 9 hours easily. -
That's just the larger 6 cell
-
Yes, the same battery as the 1810s have. That's the battery that should get you a solid 6+ hours of use. Us 1410 customers in the States got the short end of the stick with the lower capacity 4400mAh battery. I have a hard time getting much more than 4 to 4-1/2 hours out of it under normal conditions. My rule of thumb is to take the manufacturer's claimed battery life and subtract 2 hours. I figure that's closer what I'll get out of it.
Now that the I can play full screen video on the updated Linux kernel, I'm very satisfied with the SU3500. The only thing I really want now is the larger capacity battery. -
Agree.
But more mah means more uptime, right ?
It is a 6 cell but will last longer than the 4400 mah we got ?
I don't want to buy one, if I will get the same mount of time (I am getting 6.30 to 7 hours with the current 4400 mah 6 cell batt)
S. -
6:30 to 7 hours is extremely good for the 4400mAh battery. What is your idle power consumption? What Graphics power saving settings are you using?
-
Well:
- I have vista SP2
- I put the "classic windows look" on (no fancy graphics or anything, and it disabled everything).
- Uses about 4 to 13k mW (discharge rate, from the battery tweak info) depending on usage.
- I use seamonkey for a browser and email (uses less than others, tested before with my Lenovo S10).
- I only use Onenote, Word mostly but also use acrobat pro and some OCR software (Onenote and word are always running).
- Brightness set one just above the lowest settings (which is perfect for class).
- I use a usb mouse all the time.
I added 1 more gig of ram.
And that is pretty much it. I have active Sync running and avast, and nothing else.
I am really happy to get more than 6. That is why I was thinking of getting the 5600 mah battery (to get a full for sure 12-14 hours/day).
Will Win 7 mess up those time or it will be better for the system ? -
Sounds interesting, I'll try seamonkey
12-14 hours is unlikely, as the additional capacity is just 1200mAh. That's about 28% more.
I didn't try Win7 yet. I've got the upgrade DVD since about a week, but unfortunately I've much work to do and don't have time for backing up my stuff right now. I suppose that the battery life will be about the same as in Vista with proper tweaking. -
Well, 12 to 14 with the 2 batteries
(6 to 7 average for each)
The upgrade will involve some backing up and replacing some stuff (putting back software ... ?). If so, I am content with Vista for now (too much work and homework to do any backups!)
Seamonkey made a big difference when using my lenovo (compared to Firefox). Simple yet good for what I need.
I guess I may jump for a second battery so i can be untethered from the power plug (I always bring it in case I run out of juice). -
lol, oh I see.
-
I assumed you had an 1810 with the 5600mAh battery. Nice work!
-
Might be like Vista, but I guess not as good as XP: http://www.liliputing.com/2009/11/m...s-7-takes-a-toll-on-netbook-battery-life.html
I guess we should all switch to XP!
-
Actually, battery life in XP is worse than in Vista on the timelines. Might be a drivers issue.
-
nop. The 1410 us version.
Just being extra careful and not using too many stuff at the same time (all my use is not very resource intensive)
I guess that the tdp, along with the cache from the proc, plus the 3 gig of ram all works in favor if you use the same soft all the time, and do not switch too much ... that sort of things. -
Are anyone else's microphones crackly when recording? This is the ****ing third one of these laptops I've had and this seems to be a major problem, in addition to the crappy build quality. So so frustrating. Where is Acer's quality control. Give me strength.
-
So the causation of poor battery life is not running your machine on it's native OS?
Do you have evidence of poorer battery life on XP on the timelines?
