My girl's Acer Aspire 1640's hard drive had a SMART error yesterday so I installed a new WD 80gb IDE that I had bought for another project.

Problem is, the drive is detected in hieroglyphics in the BIOS.

The drive is fine as I tested it in another system.

I downloaded the newest BIOS from Acer's site but it's a Windows-based flash utility.

Any idea how I could flash this with a standard DOS bootable disk? Hoping that'll fix the problem!
