    Acer Aspire 1640 not booting?

    Got this unit in an auction, after powering on it will show a screen which says "no operating system found" so I load a cd with XP choose to boot from the CD/DVD drive and it does not work, I tried connecting an external hard drive via USB to boot from that but the external HDD does not show either in the BIOS or Boot Menu, also I am not seeing either the HDD or CD/DVD drive being listed anywhere in the BIOS, help?
