Hi, I am having a problem with an Acer aspire 1640z...!

Either the blank disk (or dvd) spins up after insertion and does not stop spinning OR it stops spinning after a few mins and then wont eject (via explorer or button press) leaving me with no choice but to reboot!... this is only with blank cds and dvds !!! I am running xp aswell.

nero wont work, nti wont work, and i even tried using the built in winxp burining method but just get an error message saying the cd/dvd is not blank please insert a blank disk....they are blank (brand new off the shelf, just unwrapped type!) tried 700mb cds and dvd+r
    any ideas here people?
    :/
thanx 4 ur time folks :)

Hi guys and thanx for replying...
I have managed to get power producer and nero to write standard cd disks now!
dont really know what i did to change it tbh! just did a system clean up and virus check. But I still cant get it to write DVD disks, I would agree that the drive is knackered if it would write nothing BUT as it is writting standard cds then im guessing the problem might be ok with a little tweaking! (maybe im wrong) any othere ideas please?

Many thanx once again for your time ppl :)

next time don't do a reboot.if you look very closely at the front of the draw you will see a very small hole. if you take a strong pin and push it in to this hole it will open the release mechanism and the drive will open.
trust me it works its a feature of all laptop CD/DVD Drives :)
