    Hello everybody

I purchased an Acer Aspire 1652WLMi recently as I did need a laptop for professional use (office apps, some multimedia, networking). After one month or so, the system began to freeze all of a sudden, with no chance to reboot it afterwards.

And that's what happens: After some hours of use, the system a) freezes and/or b) refuses to reboot. When I switch it on, the fan starts to work but stops again after 20 seconds, the HD isn't initialized and the screen stays black.

After some time, the system starts up normally, until it freezes again after 1 or 2 hours of work.

I did send it in already twice. The Acer Service Center changed the HD during the first service, and in the second service, they changed the motherboard (additionally, they tested RAM and CPU). But the problem persists.

Anyone with similiar experiences or suggestions from experts highly welcome !

    Thanks!

wow i am glad i am not the only one that noticed that but mine doesn't sound as bad, mine will osme times not entiulize teh hard about once every 10 time i run it on, also my com0uter doesn't freezer ever hour or so on me(only when i forget to close a loop off in Java), the easiest way to fix the problem is to just hold down the power buttion for 8 seconds or until it is off then try again, it works everytime for me if i doesn't work after that then there might be something really wrong with the computer. good luch with it and try getting all of the windows updates, mabey it will fix the freezing.

good luck, if it will restart after when the hd doesn't go the first time just egnore it, it won't slow you down that much.

Thanks for your feedback ! That was really fast.

Switching off works (at least). But switching it on again does not work. And that's the really annoying part of it.

XP is updated regularly. Anyway I have a strong feeling that it might have something to do with W-LAN (crashes happen more often during heavy W-LAN use) or insufficient cooling.

Acer seems not very keen on solving the problem, that's why I am posting it here.

    Happy shoppers, aren't we ?

that's odd mine works when it is rebooted, but mabye mine usualy has problems when it is one a very long time and working hard. also i think Acer will fix it and they want to, but i don't think thay know waht is wrong with it. try contacting Acer and tell them that it gives the most problems when the w-lan is in heavy use. they might not know what the problems it right away but it might help them find a fix, you would probably help them, yourself, and me, and other people, who have the same problem. the problems i have are very miner but form what it sounds like is you realy need to be fixed. if they are still lost try asking for a new one for either the retailer or acer who nows you might just have a dud??

an nother possible problem could be i virus(but i dout it) because as soon as the hd is taken out of a computer the vires should be gone unless it infected some other components in the computer.

    good luck
were all in this together :)

oh one more thing when it doesn't work if you turn in on and it doesn't work when you try again try again a few times if it still doesn't work and won't every time form that point on, i don't think that the computer is cooling properly because it is perminatily fring the conection to the hd or the hd it self. other wise it might be getting bumped and the connect in popping out.

Update (I have to share this story, it's just too much for one man...):

Problem: After 1 hour or so of use, my Acer Aspire 1652 freezes completely. Rebooting won't work until the notebook has had some time of rest. Data that was in use is corrupted after the problem occured.

1st Acer service: They replaced the harddisk. The problem persisted.

2nd Acer service: They claimed having changed the motherboard. Additionally, they did (successful) RAM testing. But still, the problem persists. Even worse: After receiving it back from service and switching it on for the first time, scandisk found corrupted data from my last session BEFORE service. Well...

3rd Acer service: They said they changed RAM and - guess what - the motherboard again !!! Acer came to the conclusion that it's an incompatibility issue between motherboard (changed twice) and RAM (tested successfully). No mention about considering issues related to heat.

My conclusion: If you enjoy beeing treated as a complete fool, go and buy Acer products ! You can be sure that Acer service quality is even more poor than the quality of the product itself.

But if you believe that you deserve a product that actually works and a service that tries to SOLVE problems rather than finding out how stupid their customers might be, DO NOT BUY Acer products. If ever there's a serious problem with your Acer, the chance of beeing doomed is quite high.

For my part, I've definetly had it with this company.

Did you ever ask for a whole replacement?

I did it twice. Acer claimed that replacing notebooks that have already been 'fixed' is not what they usually do.

But according to swiss law, this is what they will have to do now. And I will insist on that.

lol. Hope that works out for you. Maybe all that happened was that you got a bad piece. Things happen during mass production. So tell us what your replacement is like. Gotta go,see ya!

I own an Acer too, just so you know. And I like it,although my speakers and mic disagree with each other.I'm teaching it a lesson by sending it to the tech support - so called tech support.

Yep, that's true and basically not a problem for me. It's more what you make of it when you see that it happened. I think it's strange to insist on 'fixing' in this case (not really economical, I guess). It's also strange how they behave towards customers. I really was patient and cooperative and friendly. Maybe that was my fault...

Got my money back ! It was kind of hard (according to swiss law etc.), but I am really glad that this show is over !

I just ordered a DELL Inspiron 6400 dual core. It's a hundred bucks more, but hey, it's worth it (80WHR battery, lots of accessories, good reviews) ! And one thing is for sure: It can not be worse than the crapped Aspire I had.

Good luck for all you Aspire users out there !
