I installed Windows Vista on my Acer Aspire 1680 (it's 3 yr old but still Vista capable...upgraded to 1280mb RAM). But Acer didn't release a BIOS update for it and the old ePowerManagement doesn't work on Vista...and the ePowerManagement that is supposed to be for newer models tells me .NET Framework 1.1 or above required when I install. When I try installing .NET Framework 2.0 from Microsoft it tells me already installed as part of the OS.

But now Vista doesn't recognise my lappie as a notebook...there's no mobility centre, no battery support/icon/anything even though when I unplug the power it still runs. No way to save battery life by reducing CPU frequency and no easy way to run a presentation. Those two are most important...

Is the Acer Aspire 1690 BIOS compatible? Or any other way I can get Vista to recognise my BIOS? Thanks...

Acer decided not to create a Vista-compatible version for some laptops. The link describing why is here: http://support.acer-euro.com/winvista/FAQ.html#_Toc153873066

As for BIOS upgrade, try this site, its usually more updated: ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/aspire_1680

But since I did not find a Vista folder in the FTP site I doubt there are Vista drivers from Acer for that laptop. As for the laptop not being detected as a laptop, try going into Device Manager and change the ACPI to a mobile one.

I'm not sure if that will work. But it might be worth a try.

    Hi.
I got the same problem - but with a Travelmate 4502, which has the same BIOS etc.
Anyone got a solution for this?
