I'm thinking of getting a laptop and I'm attracted to the Acer Aspire 1681/2 WLMi and the TravelMate 4502 WLMi. I'd like to know what is the difference between them? The styling? There must be more! Performance? Anything?!

    Can anyone help, please?

Also, this forum is the first place I've seen the 1683 mentioned, so what's it got that the 1682 hasn't?

And does the TM 4502 have a card reader?

    Thanks very much,

    John (El Gaucho británico)

The 4500 series is designed for the workplace, therefore it has XP Pro for the OS and the color scheme is lesseye catching (dark silver), while the 1680 series is for home use and therefore runs off XP Home with a brighter silver color. The lack of a port replicator port on the back of the 1680 is another issue. A Port Replicator is just an adapter that connects to the notebook to give extra connectivity (USB, Video, Keyboard/Mouse, etc...). This helps with a user that is constantly going from the office to being mobile. All the cables don't have to be disconneted from the notebook when leaving or plugging in at your desk. The 4500 series optical drive can also be removed so that an optional battery or hard drive can be plugged in its place. The 1680's drive is not removable. The 4502 should also have the 3-in-1 media reader.
