I'm really tempted by this, but does anyone own one or have any opinions? What attracts me to this is Centrino, Dedicated Graphics, DVDRW and 15.4" Widescreen CrystalBrite screen. It appears to be a great deal compared to Dell, Sony etc. For me the Sony FS115B is closest match but doesn't have support for S-Video TV Out.

    Any opinions?

It is a new machine since it has the Sonoma Pentium M. Acer builds a decent machine and offers good value.

I know things, things that could get me killed

Would anyone recommend this notebnook over the Fujitsu N3510? BOth are within the same price range but the specs of the Acer seem to be a bit lower in terms of a lower qulaity screen and only DDR ram.

DDR 1 performs better than DDR2 due to lower latencies.[ :D]

On some websites, they say that there is a built in wifi aerial, does anyone know if this is the case? I recently tried 2 Sony Vaios (FS115B) and was very unimpressed with the wifi performance and wondered if they were typical of the Centrino genre.

The 1693 is available from Acernotebooks.co.uk http://www.acernotebooks.co.uk/asp/product.asp?recorprod=1&product=224&cat=79&ph=&keywords=&recor=&SearchFor=&PT_ID= for £919, and seems good value at this price

I have just bought the 1693wlmi.

I bought as a replacement for the Sony FS115B, which didn't really impress me though it was very stylish, and had a lovely screen.

By comparison, ansd these are only first impressions. The Acer still looks and feels quite classy and solid. The keyboard is better, really quite good. The scree nis certainly good, but not quite up to the Sony. It runs hotteradn as the vents are underneath you tend to block these if you just put it on your lap.

The dvd was making some odd clunking noises at first, but I'm not sure if that has stopped. [Does anyone know if ther is a way of making these dvd's multiregional?]

At first impressins I'd certainly give it 7/10, and prbably 9/10 for value

Can anyone help? Does your Acer do this?

    I have an Aspire 1693wlmi

When I go into the Device Manager and go to properties for the Intel 2200BG Network Connexion (Centrino wireless card), and click Properties, Advanced, I can't see the left half of the dialogue box, and can't make it bigger. As I need to change these properties, it would be very useful to see this last half (left hand) inch or so.

Any ideas... I have changed every font under the Appearnace tab, but none affect this tab... also it is the only th eAdvanced tab that has these oversized fonts
