I'm very happy with my 2012WLMi, however the built-in Intel wireless randomly disconnects from my Netgear WR614 router for no apparent reasons. Xp reports signal stregth as excellent. I'm running the version of XP that came with the product, and use the InterPRO software to configure the wireless connection. I used WinXP wireless management with the same problem. I upgraded to the latest Intel dirver and management software (on the Acer support site) but the problem persists.
So at the moment I have disabled Intel's wifi chip and I'm using a Netgear W511 pcmcia wifi card; no disconnects whatsoever.
Anyone experiencing similar problems? Any suggestions?

Might want to see if there is a firmware update for the Netgear. Had a similar problem with a Older SMC, Laptop works fine everywhere else except when I'm at this friends house with the SMC. A firmware update fixed the problem.

Had huge problems with dlink 524.
Turned out to be faulty router.
Many routers tend to overheat. That can be the problem with yours.
2012 works great within on-campus wifi network.
2012 uses pretty much standard wifi hardware.
There should not be any problems with the notebook's wifi adaptor.

I have the latest router firmware already.
Can someone post the router brands AND MODELS that are really proven to work well with the aspire 2012? Or proven to have problems, like the NetGear WGR614 in my case. TIA

You may want to check to see if there are new drivers for your wireless card. HP had an issue with their drivers that caused the wireless to disconnect randomly. The new drivers fixed the problem.
