Hi i just bought the Acer Aspire 3002LCI Notebook but havent open the box yet so i dont void the return of it up to 30 days. The Notebook was cheap like $994 Australian but like to know how long this laptop would last for most likely if i take good care of it and just use it mostly for writting essay. I bought it mostly to do my Tafe work as the main Computer i use has too much noise next to it to do this.

I heard somewhere most laptops don't last more then 2 years is this true without major problems.

It depends on how one takes care of the laptop. If the laptop is stationary most of the time and is not exposed to the environment(sunlight, heat...) it should last around 4+ yrs. I have seen laptops made in 94 - 95 still in working condition. The acer might not be top notch in quality, but I think it should surely last more than 2 yrs(unless if some of the components is faulty to begin with)

please not that these units are set at 800mhz from the factory. most people will realise this when checking system settings.

it can be reset to 1.6ghz by changing the power scheme to always on.

They are not set at 800MHz, but they throttle up & down between 800 - 1600MHz. It is a power saving feature called PowerNow. When the cpu usage is less it throttles down to 800MHz & when the power needed it will immediately power up to 1.6GHz. All mobile processors make use of this technology. Intel Pentium M, mobile P4's also do this and is named as Speedstep by Intel.
