I attemped to install Starcraft (ver. 1.0) through my DVD/CDRW, but all it would do it continue to read it but not initiate a\the Autoplay or the Setup. I was still able to remove the CD, thankfully. Is this because I need a better driver for my Optical drive? Or is Starcraft KIA for my laptop?

I would reinstall the optical drive.
My computer>right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager>cd/dvd drives (expand)>select your drive> right click> properties> uninstall>reboot -

NOO nO no. You don't need to reinstall any hardware. Your drive is fine. Sounds like some of these guys would do a heart transplant if you had a cough.
Insert disc and hold shift to stop autoplay.
Explore the disc, and copy all files and folder to dir on your harddrive.
Go to new home of files, double click install.exe. Wait a min or two and the setup window will open. Follow prompts.
You will have to follow same steps for broodwar expansion as well. -
Wow, i thought for a minute that your laptop was too old to play starcraft.
It looks like the drive is too sensitive. Try copying the files like Gallowglas said.
I'm not looking to start a flame here, but is it a burned cd? I have a lite-on cd burner that burns cd that my hitachi drive can't read. The same with my lite-on dvd burner. My sony drive can't read those dvds. -

I suggest maybe burning a copy of that game, then trying to install it.
