I'm trying to fix my friend's laptop and I thought it would be easy. When I first turned it on I got these errors after the Acer splash but before Windows boots:
ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI on Motherboard
Bus:08, Device:01, Function:02
ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI on Motherboard
Bus:08, Device:01, Function:03
ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI Network Controller on Motherboard
Bus:08, Device:02, Function:00
ERROR
Resource Conflict - PCI Network Controller on Motherboard
Bus:08, Device:04, Function:00
Press F1 to resume, F2 to Setup
I initially thought that reinstalling windows and all the drivers would fix this, so I installed a fresh copy of XP and every driver available for the device. When I turned it back on, I got the same error. I went into Windows to see if anything had changed and I still can't get on the internet through wireless, wired LAN connection, or even a wireless USB attachment. When you go into Network Connections, It's blank, Device Manager has exclamations over Broadcomm 802.11g Network adapter, Ethernet Controller, and PCI FLASH Memory.
I have tried removing the internal Wireless Network card and booting, no change. I tried resetting the BIOS, no change. Someone told me to take apart the laptop and hit the Manual BIOS reset switch, I can't find it. I think the MOBO is bad but I'm hoping there's an easy fix that I haven't heard yet. Someone please help me!
Matt

The Aspire 3050 is the "Defeatured" (Read: Downgraded) Aspire 5050. This unit shares a Southbridge with the infamous Aspire 5100/3100 units, the ATI IXP460. If you are getting PCI Resource Conflict errors, it means the Southbridge has gone and poo-poo'ed the bed. It'll either need to be replaced (BGA Replacement) or the board needs to be replaced. Save yourself the trouble and buy something else.
