Before christmas i purchased the Acer Aspire 3053 laptop.
It qualified for the free upgrade to Vista Home Premium.

Since i have installed vista, the laptop seems very very slow.
It has 60gb Hard drive & 512mb ram.

Do you think it will need more memory ?

Is it easy to increase the memory on a laptop, how do you do it ?

I am also thinking about increasing the hard drive. Can this be done? and is this easy too ?

Anyone please help with my questions ?
    Thanks.

Your hard drive size is not your problem vista only needs ~15Gb to install and run on (so it is up to you to decide if you want to upgrade your hard drive and yes it can be done).

Your problem is the amount of memory you currently have installed, 512mb while it will allow windows vista to run, it will mean slow response from it. Vista is a memory hog and the more memory you have the smoother and faster it will run. You should upgrade to atleast 1Gb of ram but from what I know 2Gb of ram is the best for any version of vista. Ram prices are very low right now so you can get 2Gb of ram fairly cheaply if you do some looking around. Yes it is also fairly easy to upgrade notebook memory, check your manual and see where the memory slots are located on your notebook and then you can upgrade them from there.

Thanks mate. Unfortunatly the manual does not show where the slots are.
I have unscrewed the bottom cover and only found one slot with the 512mb card in it. I understand there should be a second slot somewhere - but hidden.
I have searched the web for full specs about my laptop but cannot find any, so stuck at the moment on where this empty slot is.

It will probably be under your keyboard.

If you have opened the bottom of your notebook and you only see 1 memory slot then the other one is most likely located under the keyboard which will mean you have to get under the keyboard to get at it.

I thought the 3050 series had both memory slots located on the bottom of the notebook?

Please don't cross post on the forums you asked the same question in the hardware section here and got the same answer as you got here and then you created another thread asking the same thing instead of waiting for someone to respond to this one. There is no reason to create 3 threads to ask the same question...

:D I feel such a fool, i had another look underneath and found there is TWO slots, one on-top of the other.

Anyway, thanks all for your help.

Hey man,i have the laptop and i made some upgrades.
    Put 2 gb of ddr2 ram (2x 1024)
120gb hd,it was a lot faster that the stock, made diference in Vista.
    Internall bluetooth module.
Swapped the cpu with a Turion x2 TL50.
I bought the cpu for 50$ on ebay, the bt for 20$ on ebay to.
The others i bought them localy.
What i can say,tha upgrading the cpu is not very easy. You have to dissasemble the laptop almost completly, there are some screws under the keybord that VERY hard to get.The laptop clips brake easy. But if you take your time, and be carefull you can do it.
Overall i am very happy with the pc,its fairly fast, small and good looking.
