    Hi

I'm on Windows XP and I always saw 768mb RAM in my system properties.
Today I wanted to upgrade my RAM a little bit so I can install Windows 7 in the future. So I opened the place where the RAM is plugged in and I see two sets of 512mb. I thought, why did it not show 1GB of RAM in system properties? So I stole one piece of RAM from another Acer laptop which has 2GB of RAM. I plugged the piece in my Laptop and removed the two originals (512mb). I boot my laptop and system properties shows 768mb. Kinda odd, because I thought one piece of RAM from my other laptop is 1GB. I then added one of the original RAM pieces together with the supossenly 1GB piece and booted. It then shows 1,2GB. If I add the other original piece it also shows 1,2GB.

So my question: did I already had 1GB of RAM at the very beginning? Why does Windows show 768mb then? What am I missing here. Would appreciate you help! Thanks.

    Kind regards,
    Frank
