I purchased an Acer Aspire 3100-3102 just a little over a year (Aug 31, 2006) ago for my college bound son. At end of Aug 2007 the DC jack was broken. And I realized that I had not purchased an extended warranty. He took it to a computer repair shop and we are finding that we cannot find this DC jack. The ones we have found on the sites for this series are not the correct one, and if we search companies with the serial, they won't ship part that small or acer says we need to replace the motherboard because the jack is soldered to the motherboard and isn't available separately through them.
Any suggestions or information?
Thanks

I think the 3100 uses the same dc jack as the 3000 series Acers .( http://cgi.ebay.com/DC-Power-Jack-H...47976022QQihZ003QQcategoryZ3666QQcmdZViewItem)
Not 100% sure though. -
I've installed replacement jacks into laptops. If you're careful, have a decently steady hand and some soldering skill, you'll be fine. Don't rush it. I've had many a notebook brought to me with the story of it 'needing a new motherboard' due to a bad jack... all fixed within a few hours. Sometimes the jack itself isn't even bad, it's just the soldered connection that broke loose.
Andyasselin is right, eBay is likely the best source of laptop parts.
