ok please forgive if this has already been asked, I searched and could not find it, I have an Acer Aspire 3614WLMi I was looking at the possibility of upgrading to a Core Duo T2500 or T2050 and was hoping maybe someone had tried this with positive results

    the info is
    CPU: Celeron M380 1.60GHZ
    Package type: socket 479 mPGA
    Motherboard: Acer Morar
    Chipset: Intel i915GMS/i910GML
    Southbridge: Intel 82801FBM(ICH6-M)
    Bios: Phoenix Technologies V1.09

I know some of you have upgraded your newer machines to the core 2 duo, I know my machine wont use this, I'm not asking about it
but I have heard its possible the T2500 or T2050 may work with my machine, so if you have attempted to use either of these in your machine and the specs match mine please I need to know

No. It won't work. The Celeron M 380 is socket 479. Core Duos are socket M.

according to the stuff I been reading the socket M is socket 479
I looked all over and everything refering to my board I can find calls it both
not to mention my friend who has a core duo T2500 used cpuid on his system and it identifies the same socket as mine

wildspirte. run pc wizard (its free) use my sig link and the the first post has a link for pc wizard... i ask this as it seems to be the most reliable in the ifomation it gives.so far all i have found that will drop straight in to your laptop is
    Intel® Pentium® M processor Low Voltage (LV),
Intel® Pentium® M Processor Ultra Low Voltage (ULV),
Intel® Celeron® M processor Ultra Low Voltage (ULV)

but and its a big but. we have heard and read all this stuff from acer and intel saying cpu upgrades can't be done.
we have proved that to be wrong so far.
post wizard results here or in the upgrade sticky(so you won't loose your info).

    Thanks
    phil.

    PS.
any info you find out post it. you never know it could help some one else.

well one thing I know is there was atleast 2 P4s made for this socket and the 3610 series had both at one point so I guess I just hope someone with a 3610 series responds so I can find out which, oh and correction, they both have 478 pins, atleast all the info I can find says that

This is the last time I'm going to try.

Socket 479 is NOT pin compatible with Socket M. The processor will NOT physically fit. I wrote the stickied guide to processors for this forum. I've done enough research into the topic to know what I'm talking about.

Socket 479 has 479 pins. Socket 478 has 478 pins. Pentium Ms made for socket 478 will physically fit into Socket 479, however they will not work in Socket 479. Pentium Ms made for Socket 479 retained 478 pins. Either way, neither will work in Socket M, which as a completely different pin arrangement.

This is fact, not opinion. If you choose not to listen to me, listen to Wikipedia.

if thats true about the socket 479 having 479 pins explain this then
    http://reviews.ebay.com/Intel-apos-...ompared-to-the-478_W0QQugidZ10000000000074521

not to mention I cant find any CPUs that are 479 pin, all 478 pin, including the chip in mine, I checked its markings

and I am listening, I apologize if it seems like I'm not, I just want something that performs better than this CPU even if its not really alot

This is Socket 479. You can count it if you want to.

Your processor is on the left (and yes, it only has 478 pins, even though it uses Socket 479. I went into that earlier). The processor you want to upgrade to is on the right.

Any Socket 479 should work, though it might be wiser to save the money and buy a new computer.

Searching in Google I found this Thread...I know is few months old but it might Help somebody in the future.

    yes Lithus is 100% RIGHT!

    I have:

    Intel Celeron M 360
    Code Name: Dothan
    Socket 479 mPGA
    .........................
    Chipset intel i915GMS/i910GML
    Southbridge intel 82801FBM (ICH6-M)

and I tried to upgrade with:

    T7200; 2Ghz/4M/667

and guess what???...it didn't work although the T7200 will physically fit; so now I have a T7200 spare... :)

    Hope This Helps...

Well about this confusion , responsible are Intel and only INTEL ..

What they did , was to produce one line of CPU , identical in specs , but in
    two socket versions.

Here is the Intel PDF about the Intel® Celeron® .
    http://download.intel.com/design/mobile/datashts/30030203.pdf

Intel words : The processor is available in 478-pin Micro-FCPGA and 479 ball Micro-FCBGA packages.

But ... it does not say , that you can use on the 479 socket ..
Any (479 pins) CPU you like !!

The Aspire 3610 are brothel model with the TravelMate 2410 ( 2414WLMi)
    Same motherboard at list .

The only reasonable upgrade , are to move from the Celeron to a Pentium M CPU.
This are the official CPU's supported by this laptops . (at 2006)
    2MB for Intel® Pentium® M 725A Processor
    1MB for Intel® Celeron M 360/370/380 Processor

Those are the supported CPU's at 2008 .

    CPU CEL-M360 1.4GMHZ INTEL...........KC.N0001.360
    CPU CEL-M370 1.5G MHZ INTEL .........KC.NC001.370
    CPU CEL-M380 1.6GMHZ INTEL............KC.NC001.380

    CPU DOTHAN725A 1.6GMHZ INTEL .......KC.NA001.725
    CPU DOTHAN730 1.6GMHZ INTEL ......... KC.N0001.730
    CPU DOTHAN740 1.73GMHZ INTEL .........KC.N0001.740
    CPU DOTHAN750 1.87GMHZ INTEL .........KC.N0001.750
    CPU DOTHAN760 2GMHZ INTEL ............. KC.N0001.760
    CPU DOTHAN770 2.13GMHZ INTEL ..........KC.N0001.770

Yes the pin mod ability are one option .
But i will not get in details , in this forum.

If you like to have fun , watch this video . :)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GVxECijpcw

Thanks for your time .. :D

PS : Last and important ... There two revisions of the same laptops out there.

    Aspire 3610 & TM 2414 and Aspire 3610A & TM 2414A
The last series works with the 915GMS chip, and the 533 bus are possible.
At the first revision , 910GMS chip 400Mhz are the only option ( no matter what ) ....
Final .. explaining the confusion ...
    GMS are the chip set
GML are the graphics chip .

    Hi

I know it is an old thread, but I have a question. I have acer 2423wxci and I upgraded it with Pentium M 715 and it works, but I can't make pin mod to work. I tried it couple of times and nothing. Any idea? Help.

    Thanks

The difference is mine is 715 and yours 725A. Do you think 715 still should work?

    Thanks

People , every one had to do his own research .

I have write down, more than enough to in light you ...

The door of INTEL , are always open , for finding technical specs for anything.

I came mostly to post again on this topic , so to report an complete success about the pin-mod on my laptop .
Tested for more than a year !!

    Best regards to all ..
