CompUSA is having a one day sale on the Acer Aspire 3624WXCi for $649 - $250 rebate. It's only for today 7/7/06. It has a 1.6G Celeron, 512MB RAM, 40GB HD (5400RPM I believe), DVD/CDRW.
Does anyone have an Aspire 3624WXCi? Are they pretty reliable? The keyboard does flex a bit but the screen looks great! Also doesn't seem to have much bloatware on it. If anyone owns one, I would like to know what you think of it.
Thanks

that is a pretty good deal i would not call it and "everybody buy one deal but still a great deal. i believe the laptop will get 3.5 hours of battery life, but it is not a gaming machine so if you are looking for a text proccessor maybe light gameing, web surfing emails... this is the ideal computer for you
i say not "everyone buy deal" becuase it is specified to one adience only. the people who don't need high end comoputers should buy this one, but for the those who don't need power this is a great option -
$400 is a pretty good price, but there's a lot of things I don't like - Celeron, 40Gb HD, DVD combo drive, etc.
IMHO these are better deals but they are more expensive:
CompUSA - http://compusa.shoplocal.com/compus...agenumber=1&rapid=289776&prvid=CompUSA-060702 $399, Compaq, Sempron processor - better speed, 256M of RAM, but you could upgrade, still only 40G HD.
Office Depot - http://officedepot.shoplocal.com/of...279400&rapid=0&listingid=-2094746209&offerid= $549 - Compaq Turion, 512M, 80G, etc.
Office Depot - http://officedepot.shoplocal.com/of...279400&rapid=0&listingid=-2094747266&offerid= $499 HP Sempron, 512M can upgrade to Turion. Great deal but 17" screen.
Don't know if these deals are national or if you have an office depot nearby. -
From my limited use of the laptop it is a pretty decent for the price. The only negative points other than the spongy keyboard could be that all the USB ports are located on the right and the exhaust vent is located on the right and blows warm air pretty much constantly when on A/C power. It shouldnt bother most people but if you are using an external mouse, it is pretty annoying to have the cables/dongles and the warm air blowing right onto the mouse. Other than that for $400, I couldnt find too many things to complain about. Didnt try out the battery but it should last about 2hrs or so.
There wasnt too many junk software. It contained the usual Acer utilities(Power management, launch manager, all software contained in the empowering technologies suite, CD/DVD burning software, Power DVD, adobe.
There werent any restore discs included and you will have to burn them on your own. The only disc Acer included was a Norton installation CD. -
Light gaming is probably out, but internet and email will work fine.

The CompUSA sale has been extended to the end of this week or when they sell out, whichever comes first. Have a bit more time to think about it. -
The acer 3624wxci appears to be the same as my 3613lci but with the nicer screen. (i don't have the CrystalBrite) I got mine last black friday for $450.00. (no rebates)
I reformatted and upgraded the ram to 2Gb (It was on sale) I defrag on a regular basis and use Tune up utilites to check for system issues. I upped the ram in the bios to the max also. (shows up in windows as 192Mb.) I use an acer al2016w monitor with it. At full resolution, i can play the 1080p quicktime trailers and other high res videos (like Elephants Dream (the 800mb one) without any issue. No skipping or anything. (i don't use the on board sound. I use my audigy 2 nx instead)
The acer stuff just slowed it down. Not worth it. As long as i watch what i put on here, im fine. I don't do much high quality gaming, so im not sure how to test for that.
Acer Aspire 3624WXCi @ CompUSA for $400 after rebates. Is it any good?
