    Hi,

Yesterdag i bought my new acer aspire 3680, everything works except one thing. The bluetooth device seems to malfunction, when i installed the pc it gave an error with the bluetooth instal. I downloaded the instalation file manually from acer.com and tried to instal it. But it stil says it cannot find a bluetooth device in the computer. But in controll panel i have a bluetooth link, and on the front there is a bluetooth icon. Does anyone have an idea wat went wrong? And how i can fix this, or should i go back with it to the shop, idd rathor not because then i might lose it for 2-3 weeks :(.

The 3680 probably doesn't come with bluetooth.

You will have the bluetooth button and the driver will probably install, as your experience suggests. But, the laptop will not have the actual bluetooth hardware.

Have a look at the 5102 thread, there have been discussions about fitting an internal bluetooth module. The easiest option is to buy an external USB bluetooth module.

    I AM FURIOUS

One of the reasons for purchasing this laptop was for this EXACT reason cause it was set up to accept bluetooth devices....well after almost 3 weeks of trying to get in touch with Acer through their "Helpful" email address I still have no response

Why are they advertising the bluetooth to be set up and ready for bluetooth devices yet in all reality they aren't

Is it as simple as getting a download or do I have to go and purchase something else to get these two things to match up? It doesnt help that in all honesty I am a computer ignoramus. Someone?? Can you help??

I haven't been anywhere where anyone can give me any advice or help....first dealings with Acer and laptops is leaving a really bad taste in my mouth

If it doesn't have built in wireless, just get a USB adapter.. They don't cost much.

 Serioiusly a dummy here, I wasn't being funny in my first post...how do i figure out if i have built in wireless!

I took the advice from another post to look in the Acer eperformance Management spot to see if bluetooth was there and it's not....the whole draw of having the bluetooth enabled product is because the usb port will be stuffed with my external harddrive when I am plugged into my wacom tablet......can't share the hole

I seriously need help here

A while ago I contacted Acer about this. The bluetooth button exists because they all share the same case for many different series. So some models actually do have bluetooth and others don't, so even if you have that bluetooth button, it doesn't mean you necessarily have it.

I understand your situation, they said that my Aspire 5002WLMi doesn't have bluetooth but I found an internal bluetooth card, those liars. Maybe the next time you buy a laptop do some research before buying ( don't buy on impulse), when you actually buy a laptop, bring a friend who knows his/her stuff about laptops, and never ever trust a salesperson.

Or the manufacturer for that matter... I recently got an Aspire 5634WLMi from the retail store where I was working part-time to support my lavish lifestyle (text books, public transport fares, food...) Before I brought it I checked on the Acer eCommerce site and the specs for the machine specifically stated that it had integrated bluetooth, but in actuality it doesn't.

A few weeks after I brought it the specs were revised to not include bluetooth

I read somewhere that some companies/sites are not held accountable for errors on product listings or prices on their site, and if there is an error they have the right to refuse the sale of the product due to the error. I find that to be completely stupid, they should be held accountable, what if you bought a certain laptop over another one because of its features only to find out that it was just an error? You probably can't return it then.

Hell you can't even do anything about battery life, MDG salespeople tell people that Aspire laptops last 7 hours, big lie, can't even get that close, maybe if you run DOS, but still even if the company lies you pretty much can't do anything about it. You are then stuck with a product that was purchased on a lie and doesn't meet your expectations.

Yea I can't get that P.O.S Bluetooth to work either. I wanted to send files to my cell phone which indeed has Bluetooth capability. Device manager does list Bluetooth in there...

That is what happens when I go to the control panel and click on Bluetooth Configuration...Should I call Acer and have them do something about it?

sounds like you will have to uninstall the device in device manager.then download the xp drivers to desktop.reboot and when xp sees the BT it should ask for the drivers.
load drivers from folder on desktop.
this worked for me but it was on a HP notebook.

have you reloaded launch manager or any of the acer bloatware. ?

I don't know how to do that quite yet.I checked some reviews on websites that sell the aspire 3680 and it said the notebook doesn't have a bluetooth driver. It's an accessory that you have to purchase with the notebook.

I had the same experience. I was told to upgrade my Acer, it was there, but it wasn't there, etc. I went to the Vista site. I found a downloadn for Acer 3680 bluetooth. I downloaded it and I've enjoyed bluetooth ever since
