I recently installed a windows optional update for the AR5007EG wireless network adapter (version 7.3.1.42 dated 6/18/07). Prior to installation the amber light indicating connection to the internet on the front of the laptop glowed steadily. After the update, the light blinked on and off at a steady rate. I rolled back to the previous version and the light was steady again. I checked the throughput. The upload and download speed was the same with or without the update. I don't know what this update was supposed to accomplish, but the blinking light is distracting.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

    Thanks,

    Ray

The stock Acer drivers control the wireless light in a way such that it shows that the adapter is connected, disconnected, enabled or disabled.

When you updated it it probably was a default Atheros (not Acer) driver. Maybe Atheros sets up the wireless light to show traffic instead of device states.

I have noticed this and I believe it is best to stick with the stock Acer driver unless you are having problems with it.

Thanks, notebook guru. I agree. Unless someone has another solution, I'm going to roll the install back to the previous version. I don't beleive the blinking light is indicating wireless traffic. I unplugged my wireless ATT Gateway and the light kept blinking at the same rate.

I have the same connection light blinking issue. Reviewing Update History, I see the AR5007EG wireless network adapter update. How do ya "Roll Back" to the previous driver as Ray suggests? The blinking is annoying.

Start menu>Settings>Control Panel>Device Manager. Expand network adapters, right click the Atheros adapter, select properties, click on the driver tab and you'll see the rollback button. Or you could just tape over the light. (just kidding)
