I just realised that my 3810TZ was not shipped with a Win 7 OS CD so in the event I need to rebuild it I won't have the OS disk. After reading Acer support site it appears there is a hidden partition that is accessed by booting with ALT F10 that will recover the hard drive to factory default. I believe that you can use Acer eRecover to create a recovery CD as long as you have an external DVD/RW drive .. I don't.

I know there are 3rd party progs that can create a Win XP bootable onto a USB drive but they need a source Win XP OS CD

Is there a way I can create a Win 7 bootable USB drive using the Win7 OS that is already on my laptop or from the hidden partition ?

    Hi,

    this is a FAQ ;)

I had been using Phantom Drive (free 30 day trial) to create ISO images of the recovery media. Phantom Drive installs a virtual DVD writer which is useable by the recovery software.

My suggestion: Download a Windows ISO, see here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html

and prepare a 4GB USB flash drive according to the instructions you find on Microsoft website: Use a USB Key to Install Windows 7?Even on a Netbook
