Hi peeps!
I just got my 3820TG today and did a lousy unboxing video using a lousy camera but i hope it'll help with the drooling of some people =)
video: YouTube - Acer 3820TG Unboxing
Do let me know what other info i can help extract for you. i've not done those testing thingys before so might be slow if u do request.
Box measurement and weight of package will be done another time because my weighing machine ran out of batt =\.
Enjoy and cheers! =)

I am interested in mostly the screen and battery life. Battery life can wait but if you could take a picture of LCD screen running windows applications or games that'd be great.
-
off hand i can tell u that the screen is nth special.. but its not pathetic as mentioned by other ppl as well.. it does its job fine.. =)
-
Can you please comment on the heat of the laptop's surface on the bottom when gaming? Thanks!

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
TG Model, should add the "G" to your video description (and thread title) because at first I thought it was integrated only.
-
haha.. amended.. thanks! =)

How is the keyboard compared to a MacBook Pro?
Regarding the HDD, is the 5400 RPM drive sufficiently fast or should I consider throwing in a 7200 RPM Hitachi drive when this finally arrives in the US?
And are the fans loud during casual use (surfing the web, editing documents, listening to music, etc.)?
Thanks,
Spencer -

Your accent sounds German. Can I assume that you purchased this 3820TG in Germany. Do you mind telling us who has it in stock? The only place I have seen the I7-620M is Singapore. If it is in Germany, that means the laptop is begining to have a wider circulation. It also makes me optimistic that we will see it in the USA. I also wonder if the German site will sell a US keyboard version?
The extras are nice: carry bag, skin, mouse, external DVD drive and kensington lock. It would be nice to see a package like this in the US. Do you mind telling us the purchase price? Sorry to be so nosy, but you have one of the few I7-620M's we've seen, other than the ones from the Singapore student fair.
Thanks for the unboxing. It confirms for me that the Acer is a perfect size. I also like the looks. Let use know if you have any heat issues. I'm sure Arclord, who has posted in the timelineX thread would like to know if his core heat temps are common or if he has an issue that needs Acer service.
Thanks again,.

Nice video, I guess all the extras are for the Singapore students deal? Nice looking machine now if only i could buy one myself....
Anyone got a link to a dealer that ships internationally and English keyboard? -

Wow, I hope the US package is like that! Can't wait for it to get here! I hope we get the 720/5650, and all the extras are nice too as long as they don't drive up the price too much. I'd easily pay $1250 for all of that, maybe up to $1400 USD.

i've just measured the laptop.. 323mm x 236mm x 30mm, +/-1mm
I cant compare the screen with the 4820tg because i dont have one, but i would say its really more than sufficient for an average user.. in fact, you can manually tweak the saturation, colour, yada yada stuff too! its bright enough for me indoors.. because its the morning here, i'm now trying maximum brightness under the sun. the screen has this greenish hue.. hmmm.. also the gloss screen doesnt make it all that perfect but i can still see clearly what i'm typing so i guess its still doable.. -

There have bluetooth module, What's pin

haha.. yes i reside in singapore but not fully a singaporean
yes i got it at the notebook fair..
@marinex, x86 is a 32 bit right? i'm glad i got the 64.. can upgrade ram~ (droools..)
anyhow, i charged my batt fully last night and i'm going to run it today fully on battery and we shall see ok? i unplugged it at 9.18am singapore time. The battery indicator then stated that it will have 8hrs 44mins.
Also, i was so excited last night like a kid unwilling to leave his toy, i took it to my bed and continued to surf the web. the laptop was resting on top of my groin but i'm still ok. it isnt hot.. The only hotness i noted was when i lift the laptop off the table surface and the surface felt a little warm. But that is after about an hr or 2's usage. i dont see it as a problem.
there are 2 ventilations on the laptop, one on each side.. the one on the right is a smaller vent then the one on the left. -
do you have any programs i can use for gathering those stats? i'm not much of a number geek. in my dictionary, there is only :cool, ok, warm, very warm and hot.
there is also, FAST!, quite fast, ok, abit laggy, laggy, and LAG LIKE @!#$.
Do give me a program to use ok? like a link to dl or sth.
as for now, the laptop is still "ok" temp wise and "quite fast" speed wise. =)
I might do one more video to show u what's ard the pc.. what videos would you wanna see? -
OH i forgot to mention. Its on newspaper today and i'm staring at it now.
Acer is selling the 3820TG i5 520m/5650 for SGD1.7k
The 4820TG is i7 620M/5650 for SGD2K.
It has this fine print "Models from $1198 also available. Promotion valid from 28 to 30 april."
huh, what promotion? =\ also there is no mention of the freebies i got. -
omg man you gotta post heat reviews for the sake of NR!

Thanks MarineX!
Ok, this is the result of the intel burn test put at maximum.. I noticed hot air blowing out of the vent on the left. the chassis and keyboard is still cool to touch though.. -

ok will try it again.. run simultaneously right? oh, the kombuster thingy isnt working! keep saying error.
-

it keeps having this error and a blank screen.. =\.. ok nvm.. i'll just run the other 2..
-
ok. test is redone.. Looks rather high for some of the peeps out there but i think its still ok.. nth to worry? also, this is done in singapore with its current temperature at 31degC.
-
oh, i forgot to mention, the test drained my batt!! now left with 1/2 hr so i can safely say under heavy use (i ran the test twice!) can least between 2.5 to 3hrs.

At least Arclord knows he doesnt have any heat sink problem. The Core runs at 89C and is stable. Thanks for these tests. Sorry for thinking you sounded German. I haven't been out of the US in a long time.

no prob. The base feels hot to touch right after the test but not burning.. the palm and keyboard is still cool to touch. palmrest slightly warm but minimal. i think acer did think about having the "floating" keyboard for a reason.. keeps the keys "afloat" from the heat. -
how come ur temp is so low? nice! -

Judging from those temperatures is it something to worry about? I don't exactly know what the average temps are suppose to be but it seems like this is a little too hot...
Also, I remember reading a post somewhere that the i7 + 5650 3820gt reached a 3dMark06 score of nearly 10,000. But I think that was at overlocked levels? Does anyone have that post? I want to see the unclocked score (and also the scores for the i5 core for comparison, i'm frantically looking for them). Because it seems like running the i7 setup creates temps that are barely manageable to begin with so overclocking seems unsafe...
But a score of nearly 10,000 was what I was getting with my older Sager np8662, and if I could get that power in a compact unit like this I would be amazed! -
Its overclocked and its 4820TG, not 3820TG...
