Did you install the chipset drivers?
My experience is the recovery partition doesn't come with Chipset drivers installed.
    Why?
Because those *tards working at Acer believe that as long as the laptop looks like it is working, it is enough, so they sometimes left out drivers that are essential to implement certain features you can't see by looking at it.
For every laptop bought from Acer I recommend a full manual configuration after a clean install.

With those temps from just a short benchmark stint, I'm a bit worried about say a 2 hour gaming session on this. I think I would settle for a i5 cpu just to make sure I'm not going to run into heat issues later on.

This German reviewer of a i5 showed that the 3d mark 06 score was almost 7k, he also meantioned the PCI-E issue whereas its running a x1 and not 16x. So that score should go up.

The system also topped around 80 degrees C vs 89 here, so for around 10 degrees less heat. I'm willing to go for a i5 model with the 5650....

The review is here: Google Translate

When I got my 1410T, I got the Acer recovery disks in the hope that they can be "unpacked" and can be used for a clean install. But, I can't find anybody who has done this. Everybody uses the Windows 7 Image from torrents. Is there a image of the Windows 7 system on the Acer recovery disks? Can you point me to instructions on how to clean install from the disks of am I barking up the wrong tree?

Yes, I did install the latest chipset drivers. However, it didn't fix the problem. According to lackofcheese, Catalyst 10.3 fixed the problem for MSI GX640 with HD5850.

Hmmm.. maybe i like to input that alot of you are worried about overheating and stuff.. but as technology improves, other things will too.. such has heat management or heat sinks? so maybe at 80+ Deg for the i7 is normal.. wouldnt be tough for the machine to handle at all..

If all things do fail, i still have my 3 yrs warranty =P

You can't do that I believe Acer uses SysPrep images which has different setup methods (all in method all the crap goes straight into the recovery partition) from ASUS.
I know you can do that with ASUS recovery CDs but not Acer.

Besides, just because the machine can handle it doesn't mean your hands can too!

I imagine the machine would heat up and cause problems with extended intensive use, especially in situations of long gaming sessions. I'll have to see what the price differences will be if both configurations ever reach the states. As of right now the price/performance ratio seems to be favoring the i5.

Why don't you just put up picture of apples and oranges and make your comparisn. I won't even begin to go into the difference between the I7-620M and the Quad cores. But, your comparing a 15" behemoth to a 13" ultrathin and light. If Acer had the room Lenovo has in the W510, they could cool a 550 HP Cummins Deisel Truck Engine.

I would like to see Lenovo's solution to an I7-620M/HD5650 in a 13" ultra thin device (no integrated graphics only notebooks please :D ). The fact that the Acer runs at the temperature that it does and runs completely stable is a wonder in itself.

    Hi,

I just noticed there is a thread for 3820TG. Yay! But anyway, I'm a new user of 3820TG for almost 5 days. Been a lurking NBR for a while. I just want to ask the other 3820TG owner if they notice any minor monitor flickering when it's running on batt. Is tht normal?

I have read that another 3820TG owner has the same problem. It occurs when you change from the Radeon card to Intel's (happens automaticly when you stop charging your pc).

He had a solution for this: Just increase the brightness on the screen (I think it's "fn" + "some arrow"). Then it will dissapear. Even if you decrease the brightness after this, it wont come back =)

    nothing is fair on earth..

if you want a fair review

the best one could go is...

ask different manufacturers to build the exact SAME Specification machine. That will be fair.

Talk to me about "fair" again when you know exactly what is it. Clone.

say whatever you want after this, i am out of here.

Compare to the new Sony Z would be more appropriate: see this post max CPU temp = 97C / max GPU = 95C
How is the furmark test different than the intel burn test? Stress CPU+GPU ???

If you can, can you post some close-up shots of the keyboard, LED lights, speakers, etc?

And what are your thoughts on the speakers? Bad, Good, or Really Good?

I'll get to the pics later.. i don have a decent camera i can work with now..

As for the speakers, its not as soft as ppl say it to be.. they are labeled Dolby. Give it a 5 point system, i would say 4/5. sounds even better with a decent headphone one.. =)

    Hello everyone,
    here is something to consider:

both actual owners of the 3820TG i7 to date bought their notebooks in singapore and IIRC used/tested them there.

pals stated that the ambient temperature was 31°C (which is about 88°F)

to be able to accuratly compare that to the german reviews:
the average temperature in germany this time of year is about 20°C (68°C) with today no city in germany exceeding 23.6°C (75°F)

so about 10°C lower ambient temperature is what i would expect causing the about 10°C lower core temps, or is that unreasonable to deduce?

    ----------------------
    @Bronsky (and everyone else interested):
concerning "having a clean install disk without all the preinstalled crap"

here are links for 100% unaltered Windows 7 DVDs (english language versions) from digital river.
They are originaly meant for people aquiring licenses online without physical media to be able to USE their licenses, so since the intended use is to clean install with the keys on the bottom of your laptops that you legaly own:

    Windows 7 Home Premium (x86) – DVD
    ht tp://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/X15-65732/X15-65732.iso

    Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) – DVD
    ht tp://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/X15-65733/X15-65733.iso

    Windows 7 Professional (x86) – DVD

    Windows 7 Professional (x64) – DVD
    ht tp://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/X15-65805/X15-65805.iso

remember, these are the english language DVDs.
If there is any need for them, i would also have access to: German, French, Spanish

    @OptimismPrime

Thanks - that is a big help. I think you have a point about ambient temps. I'm not sure they have a 1-1 relation effect but I'm sure the base temp causes the core to run hotter.

:D That's what I"m going to. Rather than clean install Home Premium, I think I will install Pro. I have a 7Pro license that I'm going to have ready for the 3820TG when it arrives. Clean Install 15 minutes after delivery. :D I've done the ISO method before so that's the way I'll probably go. What utility did you use to remove the ei.cfg? The one in the clean instal thread? Is there any better one? I've had issues in that past with that one and only found out that it had not properly stripped the file after the ISO was loaded and I was trying to activate Windows 7. It was a pain.

There's an Atheros AR5B93 adapter in the swiss model (and presumably in the german model too)

Owning one of this babys for about 2 hours, and loving it. I'll post some Benchmarks and stuff as soon as I'm home again. But that's not before Sunday evening. Sorry...
