Update on the PCI-E bandwidth issue
I reinstalled the Intel chipset drivers as suggested by weinter, reinstalled the Catalyst drivers and disabled PowerPlay & PCI-E Power Management as suggested by lackofcheese.
Seems like the PCI-E problem is gone...3DMark06 score is now 7523 and the PCI-E remains at x16Attached Files:

Also glad to hear you have a workaround on the PCI issue. Eventually, Acer will get it straightened out. Maybe.
Also glad to see other owners showing up. It would be nice to compare the I7-620M test results to an I5-420M. Somebody should open up an Owners Lounge thread for the 3820TG or for the TimelineX Models generally.

everyone is entitled to their own views i guess.
Glad there is a temporary fix to the pci-e problems now. makes the laptop much more appealing than it already is. -
BTW does weinter and lackofcheese's suggestion solved the "switching to full screen mode" issue, or does it still trigger PCI-E to switch back to 1x? -
@Yeshhhh - what were you doing up at 5am posting?
@kiskapu - I would guess that power options will have to be disabled to prevent the system from reverting - No?
@all new owners of the 3820TG - I hate you all.
Bronsky -
Think so...It's be nice to see it rock on full screen.

Can you provide information about battery time

I haven't tested my usb boot drive yet, but from what i've read in the thread, that utility works and lets ppl install any version of w7.
i was up most of the night making my usb boot drive! lol
im currently on a x86 win7 laptop, and i ran into some problems making the boot drive.
i downloaded the x64 iso just fine.
stripped the ei.cfg file just fine.
ran the windows 7 usb/dvd boot drive tool just fine.
but when it came to the very last part where the windows 7 usb/dvd program runs bootsect.exe (to make the usb drive bootable), it was giving me an error saying it coudn't make my usb drive bootable.
i think it was because i was making a x64 iso on a x86 laptop, so it couldn't run the bootsect.exe 64bit version.
i searched for a few hours last night and finally found the 32bit version of bootsect.exe. once i swapped the file everything went smoothly and i finished making my usb boot drive at 5am.
the microsoft store provides the x86 version of bootsect.exe on their website, but you only have access to it if you bought a license from that site. most of us are downloading (legally) from digitalriver so that's not an option. thats why it took me a few hours to find the bootsect.exe for 32bit systems.
i suspect you won't run into the same problem, since i imagine you are using only x64 pcs.
but if you or anyone else does happen to try to make the usb boot drive for 64bit systems on an x86 machine, here's the x86 bootsect.exe file. i uploaded it. just follow these instructions.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=18PP3JD7
1. download bootsect.exe from megaupload
2. save the bootsect.exe file to the location where you installed the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool
(e.g. C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apps\Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool)
3. run the w7 tool again and everything should work fine -
I ran 3DMark06 for 5 times, average score is between 7400 and 7500. Case temperature after 2 hours of Borderlands gaming with all set to high is more than ok.
Screen is average, but not as bad as some reviews have stated. Swiss config is as follows:
Core I5-430M
4GB RAM
HD 5650
320 GB Harddisk
6 Cel battery
This is a fscking little powerbox.
@Bronsky: Love you too -
YESHHHHH is this thing coming to May in the states?
-
-
arclord, can post some screenshot running Furmark?

.
I just read in a few review articles that the USA should have these in May.
Only way we'll know for sure is... to wait.

can you share ss from everest?
+What is the difference between the GDDR3 and SDR? ( gpu-z memory type)Attached Files:

Could be a Radeon Driver fault or the chipset driver fault because PCI-E is the link between the chipset and the display adapter.
Always remember to update from latest sources never from Acer, they never bother to update.
Cheers and enjoy. -
A lil help from other 3820TG owner. Can I have screen shot for network adapters in device manager please. I would much appreciate the help. Thnx.
-
The HD5650 should be using 1GB DDR3 so GPU-Z is probably not showing the correct type of memory used. -

No computer to work on today. I7-930/5870 desktop is finished (at least until I can afford another 5870 for xfire). 1410T is done. Dam Acer now I have to go clean the garage. -
Bronsky, its SGD 2098 for i7-620M and SGD 1698 for i5 520M, included 7% gst
That's if I'm understand it correctly... -
How are the Acer's selling in Singapore? I would think that the higher spec machines will out-sell the lower spec models, regardless of the price. I'm surprised that no large Singapore retailer is offering international shipping.
Well, off to clean the garage. I left the car outside with the top down last night.

Edit: It looks like the MSI GC640 owners were having a similar problem to the 3820TG owners. Just glanced at the headline and thought it might be worth a read.

the i5 model is up for preorder in many italian webstores.
-
Edit: Not good - i5 cpus however - Radeon HD5470 -
The Asus N82 was reviewed with an I7-620M and it ran at 85C in the Furmark/Prime test. Makes the Acer 3820TG's 87C max temp look remarkable considering the difference in size, etc. Interesting note in the review.
"The Core i7-620M gets a bit warmer with up to 85°C, which certainly isn't an optimal, but nevertheless still completely harmless rate. So, there's no need to worry about the component's life"
Amen!

and not forgetting the different room temperature...

acer is slow on updates

Do the 3820T and 3820TG have the same chasis? How does the video card slot in and can that slot be used for something else on the 3820T?
The reason I am asking is because I am a Linux user; ATI on Linux sucks and switchable graphics doesn't work anyway, so 3820T is what I want. -
Those that are really desperate to get this model can do so here: Acer Aspire 3820TG-434G64n W7HP64 - Notebooks - computeruniverse.net
Its the i5 430 and 5650, they do ship internationally i think. Well at least to Europe. The only issue is the German qwertz keyboard.
If someone know where i can get a new 3820 English keyboard I will buy it. -
-
If you don't need the GPU, I would also look at other manufacturers' units which have an I5/I7 and integrated graphics. The 12.1" Lenovo X201 comes to mind immediately. I5/integrated GPU. Far better keyboard and no waiting.
@Lee_what2004 Agreed. It occurs to me, however, don't they have air conditioning in Singapore?Wouldn't that make ambient temps at 20C? Anyway, Amen Brother.
@Hendrickson. Thanks for the link to the German site. It sounds from their disclaimer that they will be handling US keyboards in the future. Acer has committed to a full product release by mid-June in Germany. I would assume that a lot of international customers will be ordering from German sites at that time. This is exactly what happened with the LG P310. Notebook.De sold as many as they could get in stock. Most of them in Europe and a few here in the US. In fact, I don't recall any US distributer ever getting any P310s. -
-
1. So in which countries is the 3820 In Stock and readily Available for Sale at this point in time...?!?
2. When is it expected to hit USA...?!?
3. Are Prices in USA generally lowest than all other countries...??
Thanks -

. We can get the X201 with an I5-520M for $1,099 USD on Lenovo's site and for less from retailers after discounts or Bing cash Back. The problem with buying the UL30A is the SU7300 CPU. The New UL30 will have the UM version of the I5 which has not benchmarked well. You are probably right that the 3820T is the best option for you. I would guess that the 3820T will sell in the $850 range USD. It will be priced at 699E for the German release.
Acer TimelineX 1830T, 3820T, 4820T and 5820T priced - SlashGear
Acer has really struggled with the introduction of this line and I'm afraid that you're not likely to see the 3820T for quite some time. Acer has promised a complete release of the line in Germany. If German retailers have access to US keyboards, they will likely ship internationally.
I would assume that Acer will have revamped its distribution to the rest of Europe as well. Does Austrialia use a UK keyboard? If so, you might be able to have a unit shipped from a UK retailer once they get access to the high spec'ed units.
The US market is the big question mark. With all of Acer's attention focused on the European market, I would assume that US retailers are not going to have access to the complete line of Timelines for another month (I hope I'm wrong). That means that we might see a trickle of units in the hands of retailers.
If you find your model on a German website, there should be no problem ordering from Notebook.De. They handled the LG P310 release very well and I didn't hear anything negative about returns or warranty work. I would have bought a P310 from them but they were sold out by the time I found out that they had the model I wanted. I think that, when they had the P310, the German distributors had UK keyboards as well.
