Hi all,
I have an Acer Aspire 4520 Notebook. CPU 2.2 Ghz., 4 GB Ram and running Windows 7, 32 Bits O/S.
For some unknow reason the computer has started to Boot into Windows very, very, slowly. It takes 2 to 3 minutes to Start Windows, sometimes longer. I have checked the HDD and found no problems. I even ran Windows Vista on a seperate HDD and the result was the same - slow to Boot.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this problem.
Thanks.

Did you enable quick boot? or legacy USB? in your BIOS?

I have not made any changes to the BIOS. The setting are :
Quiet Boot : Enabled
Network Boot : Enabled
F12 Boot Menu : Disabled
D2D Recovery : Enabled
SATA Mode : IDE Mode
CIR Function : Disabled
Boot Order is : CD Rom first, HDD Second. -
Try this guide:
Make Windows vista and 7 boot faster (2 CORES AND ABOVE CPU ONLY) - YouTube
But the best solution is to reformat the hard drive or uninstall unwanted software -

Lee, the OP has already said he tried Vista on a separate HDD with the same result.
Albeit vista is slow in the first place, but I assume you've still noticed a major change in speed with both installations.
I think this is a hardware issue. Its very possible there is something wrong with your RAM. Try using 1 stick of ram at a time, try each separately.
Recently I upgraded my friends RAM on an AMD system to 4gb, and although at first everything seemed normal, his system was very slow in the way you describe. I think it has to do with the HT bus of the AMD cpu which is related to power saving states and the RAM speed. They may influence each other in unintended ways. -
Hi Niffcreature,
I have tried changing the ram and that has made no difference - still slow to boot into Windows. I'm inclined to agree with you it could be a hardware problem.
Thanks for your input.

Problem solved.
Just to let everyone know that I found the culprit that was slowing down the booting into Windows. It was a faulty DVD drive. When I replaced the drive everything was cool.
Thanks for all your help. -
Wainui, as a netbook user I have to say netbook is netbook, not a laptop or desktop pc, adding or upgrading hardware is an option but not no 1 choice.
Meanwhile, the fact is you should do regular system maintenance job such as disable startup programs you don't use in the control panel , disk defragment, disk cleaning, remove any programs you no longer want, clean those unneeded files to free disk space etc. Learn more how to do from those resources:
