I've just purchased an Acer Aspire 4551-2522 with Windows 7 Home Premium which came in the Spanish language. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate for the multi-language feature (English). The padlock locked/unlocked image now doesn't display when CAPS lock is clicked. The notebook doesn't have any indicator lights, or any other way to indicate CAPS is on or off, or NUM Lock is on/off. Does anyone have a solution to this? In the meantime I've installed TrayStatus from Binary Fortress as a workaround, but would like to see the original Acer functionality.

Acer support were no help at all. I was advised that they provide no warranty support if the operating system is changed from what the notebook was shipped with.

If you clean install a new OS you will lose Acer Launch Manager which I think which is needed to allow certain keys to function... hotkeys and so on. Not sure about it affecting caps lock though.

Worth checking Acer site for that application and downloading it maybe ?

Yes, Launch Manager has a OSD for CapsLock, NumLock and many more. :)

Fantastic. Thanks for the suggestion. That solved the problem. :) I'm still leaving TrayStatus active because it continues to display CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK status.

That's good... thanks for updating the thread.

Might be worth checking out the other applications available. When I clean installed Vista I needed launch manager, Realtek sound driver, NVidia graphics and the Acer camera drivers.
