    Hi all,

A family friend dropped an Acer Aspire 4720Z laptop off with me today (I work in IT) because it wasn't booting. And by "not booting", I mean, "doesn't even get a POST screen". Power button goes green, fans spin for a few seconds, then spin down (power button remains on) but otherwise nothing.

I've removed the battery; no go. Removed individual memory modules, and removed both and put another one in. I've removed the wireless card temporarily, and even the hard drive. None of this has changed things. I haven't hooked the system up to an external display yet, but since I don't see HDD activity like the system may be booting (but with a bad VGA flex cable) I doubt that will be any different.

Does anyone know of a chronic problem with the 4720Z, perhaps a bad fan sensor chip, or something else? I'm at the point of telling him it's likely the mainboard and nothing I can do but back up the data from the HDD.
