Speaking about model number NX.GTCAA.020 specifically.

Snagged one of these at $499 this morning for my sister, to upgrade from her cheapo $100 2-1. The Acer website says the GeForce MX150 is capable of having 2GB of ram dedicated to it. So, is there a slot for that, or is it built in?

The other thing is that it comes with 8GB of SDRAM with two slots. Anyone know if the mobo is capable running two sticks of 4GB DRAM in dual channel?

Here's the specs off Acer's website.

    Thanks

It might already have 2 sticks, maybe just one, run CPU-Z and check the SPD tab.

The GPU, might have 2GB of VRAM, but its a low end GPU, having more RAM doesn't make it faster, but for basic usage the MX150 wont even be used because the iGPU runs the show.

Before knowing whats in there, can't be sure of anything, because that spec page is not that specific.

If its browser/office/facebook machine, its plenty overkill.

It will only be used for Word documents, web browsing, etc. The most graphically intense thing they'll be doing is streaming YouTube or Netflix.

That is all handled by the iGPU, and its all pretty light work even for the iGPU, it will be snappy, at most, I would recommend a clean install of the OS so there is no crapware installed, then, just use it.
