    Hi,

I need a low end laptop for my Grandpa, i liked the Acer Aspire 5 Slim, but 4gb imo is way to low, so wondering if anyone know what memory would be best for it.

According to users, the 4gb is DDR4 1.2v 2666, but upon checking AMD Ryzen 3 3200U webpage say "System Memory Specification 2400MHz"

I'm more interested on knowing if the ram will run at 2666 or 2400, given what amd states, that said i don't know if this APU or even if the laptop support memory overclocking maybe it can support 2666 out of the box with the bios etc.

Maybe someone here has mess with this laptop or know how the 3200U works, that could suggest it if i should go with 2400 (CL15) or 2666 (CL19), pricing is very similar.

With HWiNFO64 you can see what speed it's running, and what memory is used in it.

The APU itself doesn't support more than 2400 MhZ according to AMD specs, so the RAM would (I'm afraid) operate at that speed most likely.

However, I'd go with RAM with lowest latency (CL14 or CL16) just in case.
I wouldn't go for CL19 because the latency of that RAM is quite high. Lower latency RAM benefits APU's more (even if they do operate at 2400 MhZ).
I think you can find 16GB (2x8GB) 2666MhZ CL16 such as this one:
    https://www.amazon.com/Ballistix-Sp...mm+ddr4+2666+2x8GB+CL16&qid=1578440393&sr=8-2

You can also find 2400 MhZ CL14:
    https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-HX424...r4+2400+2x8GB+C12&qid=1578441217&sr=8-1-fkmr1

Up to you on choosing speeds, but you might as well go for 2666MhZ CL16 because its cheaper than the 2400MhZ one with CL14 (oddly enough... but in fairness, the CL14 could be a bit quicker).
Still, if its your grandpa who will be using it, then go for the CL16 with higher speed.

On the other end, have you considered waiting for Zen 2 mobile to come out?
Those laptops are to be released in the next month or two and will come (most likely) with 3200MhZ RAM which will increase the bandwidth significantly (and might come with far better capacity than what current APU's are configured with).
And you could also find a system that's more powerful for similar amount of money if you wait for Zen 2
