Hello everyone. I've recently purchased a secondhand one of these and am experiencing some difficulties. Thanks in advance for any help given.

The laptop came with no power supply and a dead battery, which I knew about beforehand, but it booted into bios, so I figured I'd have a good chance of having a decent laptop with the addition of a universal power supply. I assumed I could purchase a battery at my leisure. I rarely use battery power anyway, so it's not that big a deal to me.

I have a universal psu, so when the laptop first arrived, I plugged it in, and it did boot to bios as the seller claimed. However, after about a minute, it began beeping twice every 3 seconds or so, and the battery led began flashing orange. Also, whenever it beeped, the screen would dim, then brighten back up. I've emailed the seller about this, and he said it didn't do that for him, but the battery had some charge when he got it, so maybe that's why not. He said he was going to repair and use it himself, but gave up once he saw the battery wasn't charging, as his costs were adding up.

I checked into some things, and discovered that this laptop originally came with a 120w power supply, whereas I was using a 90w. So I decided to buy a new battery and 120w universal adapter, as it seemed likely it wasn't getting enough power or that it was dipping every few seconds or something.

When they arrived, I plugged in the adapter first, and it didn't beep for a minute or so, just like when I first got it, but then started again. I assume this is because I left it sitting for a couple days waiting on the things I bought, though I'm not sure why that would make a difference. Also, the battery I got was a replacement, non OEM one, and when I put it in, the computer boots to an error message that says "Warning Incorrect battery Using an incorrect battery could cause system damage" and then it shuts down again. I've looked at a lot of different batteries online, and all of the generic ones replace about 8 different acer batteries including mine, and are the same as the one I bought. Also, when I've tried booting it with no battery at all in, I get the exact same incorrect battery message.

I have several questions. First, does anyone else have an Acer laptop that won't boot without the battery and yields this particular message. Second, does anyone have any idea what's going on? <grin> Third, do you think it's worth getting a new OEM battery? Will that solve this? Fourth, do these laptops use a rechargeable CMOS battery (it keeps losing the settings, but only after it's off power for a little while; I've read that some Toshibas have rechargeable CMOS batteries, but the system will only charge them after the laptop battery is charged 100%)?

    Regards,

    Keith

    Good morning
I'm French and I have the same Notebook like you (Acer Aspire 5014WLMI )
I have the same problem like you with the battery (I have bought 2 pieces in different places) and the result is the message :
“ Warning ! Incorrect battery used ! Using incorrect battery can cause system damage. Please remove the battery and insert the correct one. The system will shutdown in few seconds to prevent system damage”
Do you have the solution today for this problem ?

Hi, has anyone figured out this problem? I just bought a new battery for my TravelMate 5620 14.8V 4400mAh SANYO for $AUD 140 and I am getting the same warning message. Battery is not charging, LED is blinking orange-green all the time. I have flashed the latest Bios (1.24) in case but did not help.

Is it genuine ACER battery? ACER laptops don't like their power stuff(AC adapter, battery) if they are not original ACER parts. There are tons of threads about that here. The battery must me for your model and must be original.

It is not original, but is there a work around it? because it's very hard to find original acer battery, all of the batteries i found are not genuine.
