    Hi,

I have an Acer Aspire 5021 Wlmi. I've got mg 512 meg Ram and 64 meg of graphic memory (Ati X600).

Is someone using Vista with this notebook?.
Do you think Acer is going to release drivers for Vista?. I think there are still BIG issues with drivers (wireless card for example).
Which features of Aero are disabled with only 64 megs of ram?. I felt quite angry when I saw 128 megs of ram for running Aero at 100%. Maybe I could update the graphic card?.

The utility provided my MicroSoft doesn't work on my system so I prefer to ask users before installation  .

    Thanks to all :-D

As far as I know, u need 128 mb of ram but it doesnt matter whether it is dedicated or shared. So if ur video is 64 dedicated + 128 shared, its fine.

The 5021 Wlmi has an Ati X600 64 megs of ram so I think is not possible to use shared memory, maybe I am wrong. Anyway, is someone using Vista?.

I just set up Windows Vista Businessx86 (for some reason couldn;t install Vista Business x64) on my Acer Aspire 5021 wlmi laptop. Note that my computer knowledge is vert limited but this is what I can tell you.
First of all I have 1 gb of ram not 521 mb.

Everything works fine on Vista apart from the wireless card. Although I have the latest driver for it, I can t get the wireless card to turn on (you know the button in the front) which is because Launch Manager, the program that controls these buttons, doesnt work on Vista.

Aero runs fine (I havent tweaked anything just the default settings upon installation) after a system search the x600 uses shared memory and boosts up to over 200mb, so there is not problem with that.

    Everything Else works Fines

    Additional Notes:
Sound did not work but once I logged on to the net Windows Update found Drivers for it so it works fine.

I have only installed for a few hours so I haven't searched it well and I haven't run any heavy applications.

I wouldnt recommend Vista unless you have at least 1.5-2GB of RAM. Vista is said to run slow on 1GB.

    @AlexMagiK
The launch manager you posted is definetely an imporvement. I can now actually set it up to open the browser I want etc. When I press the Wlan button is actually gives out a notice that says No device (note that the device is correctly installed with up to date drivers) However as this is for a different laptop it is probably a different network adapter. The site you posted is in chinese (or some similar language) and I can't browse it. Can you chech the site for

Well, I have a Aspire 5021 Wlmi machine with 128Mb X700 GPU and 1.5GB memory. I installed Windows Vista last week and i have been using it in a week now. Everything seems to be fine and all programmes i used to use in windows xp worked fine too. You need to tweak a little with Acer's Launch Manager in order to get the Wireless Card to work appropriately. First thing you need to download the Launch Manager for Windows XP from Acer's website. Try to install the Broadcom driver from the website too (i am not sure if it helped but it certainly did not mess the system up :)).

After installing the broadcom driver fine, run the setup file in the Launch Manager with administrator rights. Look at the installation folder to make sure that you have the Wbutton-file, reintall otherwise till you get it, since it's the one for the wireless button.

After this start the launch manager to set the wireless option to "always on". The next time you boot windows vista, when the machine tries to use the wireless connection it can freeze. Personally i get around this by setting the "FScreenOSDFlag" in the registry editor(ok, find Launch Manager in windows registry editor) "1" and update to the latest Broadcom Wireless Card Driver via Windows Update. You should be able to use Windows Update if you use the TimeStop-crack, which, well is the only crack that works for the moment. Recommendation is to do the registry editing and updating before booting up, because once freezed your computer will be unusable.

Well, that's how i fixed the wireless problem on my vista machine. Scream if you find it useful. If you feel uncertain about this, just wait for Acer to release its windows vista drivers during March. Personally i prefer a little problem solving :)

    I have same machine.

Did you do an upgrade or a new install. Any problems with OrbCam or wireless or any functions. Do you think you need 2 GB ram to run everything well on this machine?
