hi, i was about to buy this laptop (Acer Aspire 5024WLMi) but then found that the rpm on this harddrive is 4800, so i was wondering will this harddrive speed affect the speed of the overall laptop e.g. in gaming would it be able to handle the new games well after all it features an ati mobility x700 128mb graphics card?

    thanks in advance

Well, the 4200rpm HDD will only slow down the laptop a bit. Loading times might be a bit longer but the actual gameplay wont be affected too much since it will be loaded on to your graphics memory. Its not ideal but the HDD speed will have somewhat minimal effect on games.

Also the HDD is easily upgradable, you can just pop in a 5400/7200rpm HDD if you wish in the future.

For my surprise my 5024WLMi came with 5400rpm hdd so there's a chance that you might get one too.

4200rpm will only really affect loading times for levels and gameplay will be the same just like miner said.

Browsing photos and files through your computer will be slower than it could be though. It shouldn't be too bad.

Also 4200rpm hard drives generate less heat and have longer battery life

from what I have seen Acer's usually come with a restore CD and a hidden partition on the hard disk. They do not provide clen OS discs.
