Hi. I have a battery problem with my acer aspire 5050 and I am currently using windows xp. I am not sure if my battery is charging because the battery indicator never charges to full anymore. It is always at 0-3%. However, when I unplug the AC adapter sometimes the indicator tells me that it has more than 1 hour left with the battery being at 0-3%. I am not sure what the problem is and if a battery replacement is needed. At times the battery cannot be detected with the AC adapter plugged in. Sometimes when I turn on my computer with the battery in, the touchpad and the keyboard does not work. Then when I take the battery out and use AC power, the touchpad and keyboard will work again. Can anyone help me? Thanks.

have you unplugged the AC and timed how long the battery lasts,,

it sounds to me like the charge status may be being misreported

it lasted about 30 mins. Since the keyboard and the touchpad do not work when the battery is plugged in, I'm thinking there might be a problem with the mainboard. does anyone know how i can reset the mainboard?

don't think you can "RESET" the main board,,,,, you can reset the BIOS
by either disconnecting the coin type battery (often blue)... or if you can locate CMOS rest jumper,, UNDER RAM ON SOME ACERS,,, short those pins..

that will reset the CMOS... that's about the best you can do
