Acer Aspire 5050 Help NO OP SYSTEM OR HARD DRIVE FOUND!!!!AHHH

System Specs

• Acer Aspire 5050
• AMD Turion 2.0 GHz
• ATI Radeon Xpress 1100
• 120GB HDD
• DVD-Super Multi double layer DVD+RW
• 1GB DDR2
• Windows XP

The Problem
Well today a friend of mine droped off his laptop because he was having problems with it. He was just searching the net and everything went black, Then the computer rebooted then booted back up! About a minute later it rebooted again and that was it. When he turned the computer back on it says no operating system found!

So I put in a windows xp disc it ran the system check and everything was normal, then I got to the screen to Install New or Repair installed operating system. I clicked on install new and then I get an error message that says no hard disk drive found make sure any previously hard drives and such and such is installed correctly..

Everything is in place nice and snug like it should be I even took the batteries both mother board and batterie pack and booted the laptop up from the power cord so I could reset the system bios. But still the hard drive is not showing up.

Can this be a virus that whiped out everything on the laptop including the system bios and any driver that makes the hard drive work? This is driving me off the wall.

The computer is about 5 months but came without warrenty so it can't just be sent back. If anyone has any ideas im up for anything.

I tried using a few boot discs still nothing on them but if anyone has anything to try let me know..

No discs came with the laptop so there is no acer cd's or anything.

 

Sound like bad hard disk does it show up in bios?



have you check serail number on acer site am sure you can register if still warrenty get them to replace the hard disk if bad

 

No the hard drive wont show up in the system bios. There is no warrenty with the computer it ran out last month believe it or not haha. Can it just go like that? That was my first guess was the hard drive went but I didn't think it would die out in only 5 months but then again thats computers for ya.

 

Wait there was no warrenty my laptop ran out last month... So no there never was a warrenty with his laptop. I have a file from Western Digital its a lifeguard download or something you need to get into dos to run it though. Any ideas how to get into dos when all I have is the system bios to choose from haha.

I'm out of ideas anyone?

 

Since the hard drive does not show up in the BIOS it probably means that the Hard Drive has failed. You probably will just have to get a new Hard Drive and install it.

or you could put the drive in an external enclosure and hook that up to another computer to see if you can access the drive to see if it works or not.
