Hello, fellow acer owners. i recently purchased an Aspire 5100 - 5445 laptop for about 700. Specs: OS windows Vista, AMD TURION 64 X2 TL-56 (1.8ghz), 15.4 CrystalBrite LCD, ATI Radeon Xpress 1100, 160gb HDD, 1 gig ram dd2 and the problem the dual layer DVD burner/Rom drive.

Heres the problem i encountered. i decided i was bored one day in my dorm and decide to rent some DVDS in the campus library to watch to pass time. This was the second time i used the DVD-ROM/RW drive. So i put it in the drive and it wont load the DVD, so i thought it was proabably scratched so i put in another dvd iit does the same thing. It makes a "WRRR WRRR" sounds trying to load or something but it is failing. so i thought it must be an outdated driver or something so i check the drivers and they are the latests one so no go there. then i called tech support and they just yawned at me and go to acerpanam.com. They service is just horrible. so can anyone help me o nthis or should i clear decided to call the drive defective?

Thanks for helping and having your attention for my matter

    Hi
have you tried playing anything else in your drive, like a music cd . If so do you get the same problem, and wrrrring sound? Is the disc pushed firmly into place? Since you just bought this laptop Id be bringing it back and getting a replacement from the store asap.
Otherwise perhaps uninstalling the drive and rebooting the system so it re-installs the drive may remedy it.

    good luck
