I'm looking for some help retrieving the e-recovery password for an Acer Aspire 5100 (BL51).

I'm trying to use e-recovery to format the laptop and reinstall all the software as new but I've lost the e-recovery password.

I've tried to access the recovery partition by running ubuntu linux from cd so I can get the password from the file on the hidden partition but I can't find the file.

I've read that the password is stored in a file called aimdrs.dat and is located on the hidden partition in the tools folder.

In Ubuntu, I can only see two partions which are Acer and Acer Data but I can't find the file anywhere on there. Tried searching both partitions without any success.

    Can anyone help?
