I have rebuilt an Acer Aspire 5100 with ATI x1300 128mb graphics and SATA HDD. I have installed Windows XP Media Center edition, done all the updates, but no matter what I do I cannot get the laptop to boot without plugging in a USB flash drive. The boot process always hangs just after the Windows XP logo screen and goes black. The only way I can get it to boot is to insert an USB drive and then take it out again!! What am I doing wrong??
