    Hi all,

I recently bought a Aspire 5100-3357. It's only 3 months old. I'm having repeating issues that are hard to work with.

1.) while trying to type, the computer inserts spaces everywhere. The cursor jumps maybe one space, maybe a bunch while i'm typing. I can take my hands off the keyboard and it will just keep cursoring to the right untill it maxxes out whatever form it's on. This happens in word 2002, text boxes on the internet or in windows.
2.) while scrolling on the internet the page will scroll to the bottom and plant itself there and i can't scroll up. i can try to wheel up or drag the slider, and the page moves up, but when i release, it just goes right back to the bottom.
also, when this is bad i can't click buttons in windows very well, i have to type Y for yes, N for no, etc. when a button box comes up.
3.) upon restarting after these issues, since they render the computer useless, i get a BIOS beep, which doesn't match anything on Pheonix's website. it is a continuing beeping with ultra short breaks, almost a constant tone. it will load windows after a while, or a little faster if i hit escape.

These problems are related and happen at the same time. The cursor spacing issue will usually start out with few occurences, then wham, it's like the space bar is being held down.
The scrolling is either working correctly, or full on downscroll.

I thought it was related to the ATI driver problems we have, but it does it with the original driver, Acer's updated (even older! driver), and the newest ATI drivers and Catylist.

Maybe program related, but i've restored the comuter twice, and have almost zero programs installed beyond factory setup right now. Just word 2002 and anti-spy.

Could it be heat related. Seems to take a little while for the thing to really go nuts, maybe as it gets hot. like the cursor thing will start a little, then get worse, then bam!
if i shut it down for a few hours it will usually start back up with no bios beep and then the cylce starts again, but i cannot get through a sitting without this happening.

I don't know what else to try. i've tried updating touchpad, mouse, keyboard, graphics, any driver i could. i've turned on filter keys which keeps characters from repeating while typing if a key is held down. this seemed to slow the problem but it's still there. i havn't turned off the touchpad yet.

ANYone else have this problem or similar issues? or ideas on what it could be. thanx in advance

Since its only 3 months I would suggest you contact Acer for repair. Sounds like a hardware issue.

Exact the same problem here. It started one month after I purchased it. It is very annoying. I do not think Acer is a good laptop. I would avoid it in the future for sure.
Acer 5100 AMD MK-36, 1gb, 100gb hd, Vista Home Premium.

I have a 5100-3010 with similar problems. Did you ever get yours fixed? If so how? Let me know as mine is still under warrranty and I want to fix it without sending it in (since I use it all the time). I find that if I hit the arrow up or arrow down key it stops the cursor from going nuts.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
