I have an acer Aspire 5101 laptop about 18 months old, recently on starting the machine I am getting two beeps in quick succession followed by a black screen with this message:

    MEMORY: OK

    ERROR
    0200 failure fixed disk 0

It will noot boot up any further than this.
My hard drive works fine on a different system.

Has anyone had any experience of this problem and knows what it could be?
My uneducated guess is its something with the motherboard but after that my knowledge is pretty thin. Ive heard of problems with the southbridge chip??
And, are there any possible ways to repair, without spending too much cash as I'm only a poor student!

Unfortunately, mine isn't under warranty any more either!

    thanks!
