    Hello,

I have an Acer Aspire 5315. I keep running into trouble with my battery adapter. About six/seven months ago my adapter wouldn't charge my battery no more, unless I wiggled around the switch and got it working .. eventually the wiggling wouldn't work anymore. I sent it back to acer since I was under warranty and they sent a new one back. And now I'm running into the same problem. The adapter refuses to charge the battery unless I hold it in place or wiggle it around. I called the Acer Tech Support people and the lady there said there could be something wrong with my "BIOS" and maybe one of the tech's could fix it .. but inorder to talk to them I would have to pay $50 to talk to them for 30 minutes .. which I thought sounded ridiculous so I hung up.

Does anyone know how I could fix this? What do I have to do with the BIOS?

Any help would be appreciated thanks!

I always wondered why this was the situation for most if not all manufacturers. Then I learned the reason why.

Remember that time just a couple of years ago when full-fledge laptops (when these all these teeny netbooks weren't around yet) were so pricey? Those days, even without the tanked economy, laptops were expensive. So together with other measures, the manufacturers figured they should separately sell real customer/technical support and the product. It's like batteries in toys, only this one applies to tech support. That's why laptops got cheaper and cheaper, and that's why you are being asked to pay.

About your problem, I don't see how this could be related with your BIOS. When you do find the "correct angle" and the adapter works, does it continuously charge? Of course provided that you don't move it.

If wriggling around works check the battery contacts.
