Hi,
I changer my OS to windows xp professional SP3. At first there was a few drivers which were not detected but i manager to install them and get them to work properly. However, i am having trouble with the PCI device which is still say unknown device. I have followed several methods on different forum of how i can install this device but not luck as of yet. I have installed Audio_Realtek_v6.0.1.5443_Vista_XP, but again that has not worked either.
Does anyone know how i can get this device to work because without it i have no sound. i would really appreciate it any suggestions.
Cheers
tom

Go to http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_4315.html
Under "Drivers and Utilities" choose MS Windows XP dropdown menu click on Audio_Azalia_v. 5.10.0.5443. These are the correct Realtek drivers. Make sure you unistall the old drivers before doing this. -
Or checkout the Realtek Drivers from Realtek's site....

thanks lostboykev, i done what you said but still the PCI device is unknown and there is still no sound.
Anymore advice?? -
press the fn key and f8 - your sound may be muted
-
Download the R202 executable audio drivers from Realtek's website, and install !!
-
lol. i wish that was the problem, but unfortunately not. its the PCI driver that is not being detected. Thanks anyways.

What the ?!
If the driver is not installed, muting/unmuting won't work. BTW the OP got the link for the Aspire 4315, not the Aspire 5315. Sensible thing to do is to download the driver from Realtek. ....Period

tried downloading R202 and installing it but still no luck. The message on the bottom right on the screen still comes up sayin that PCI new hardware found and asks me to locate the software for it. what location shall i choose, i think am donig this bit wrong.

your best option may be to reinstall XP.... and this time INSTALL THE NEWEST REALTEK DRIVER FIRST.
that has ALWAYS sloved the sound problem....
just burn the REALTEK 2.02 Driver onto CD.... and this time when installing XP install the SOUND as soon as you get control of the OS...
the problem is the MS HIGH DEF AUDIO driver is very picky...
look at the attached PICs of my device mananger and tell me what devices you are missing... -
thanks bigozone am goning to do what you have said and see if it works. i have notice i am missing the modems bit so am guessing this is the problem.
Cheers

follow the SOULPASS guide...
it works perfectly...
if you use thier files and thier instructions you will have a nice clean PC.... and then you are ready to upgrade drivers....
i'll send you some links to newer drivers later tonight.... (you will have to remind me!!) -
Hey tom,
Well, all you got to do is this to make it work.
~ Download the Realtek driver related to the aspire version, this case 5215, you can find the link =here=
~ After that, unzip it, and install it.
~ Now after doing this it will ask you to reboot your pc. do it.
~ After the pc is rebooted the sound wont work, but now once your pc is up to work, do this new steps
~ Go to Control Panel.
~ Click on System.
~ Click on the Hardware tag and look for the 'Device Administrator', and select it.
~ Once the devices are showed in this list, look for the one that says "PCI unknown device" or something like that, you can identify it because has like this yellow icon on it.
~ Once you have found it, double click on it, a windows will pop up, and select the option "reinstall driver" select it.
~ Now after this, the Bus for the driver will be installed, and now, again install the setup file on the Realtek folder that you have downloaded from the page.
~After this your pc will reboot again but now with sound =).
Enjoy and I hope this steps can help you out.
