Hi,
I've got an Acer Aspire 5315 and for some reason the laptop has stopped working correctly. The laptop will turn on and work fine when the battery is in, but when I try and charge the battery from the PSU plugged in nothing happens and the battery is starting to drain. I've taken the battery out and tried to power the laptop up but there seems to be no power getting to the laptop. The PSU is showing a green light on the block. I have also been advised that it could be the AC socket on the laptop, but I've now replaced this and its still not working.
I haven't got another PSU. Could there be any other reason why the laptop wont turn on ??
Cheers for any help.

Recently, a refurbed AOD-250 netbook of mine did this, and the service center described it as a "DC injection circuit" issue. Essentially, the circuit that determines if the battery, power cord, or both are connected. This circuit works together with the smart chip inside the battery. I'd guess you need a factory repair/replacement for the motherboard from a service center.

Good luck, a faulty power supply is always a distinct possibility. Fortunately Acer builds their notebooks/netbooks with a standard power supply jack, rather than the proprietary junk HP and Lenovo use.

Sounds like a similar problem my moms Aspire One has. Bad DC socket. What happened is that the connector to the motherboard came loose from the mobo due to poor soldering.

Just to let you guys know, I've tested the AC adapter on another laptop and thats working fine with it. So I guess its the motherboard as I've lookced where the DC socket is that I replaced and the connection looks fine. I can only think it must be somewhere on the motherboard thats gone.
Thanks for your help. -
my mom took her to microcenter and they needed to replace the motherboard. 327 dollar repair under warranty. They offered to give her a 350 dollar gift card to buy another netbook. So i guess its a common problem with acer. I have the 5315 and i havent had this issue yet...knock on wood. I dont have an extended warranty either. However i have looked around on google and they say that the DC connector could still be faulty. Take it to a reputable repair shop and the repair shouldnt be more than 70 or 80 dollars
