Been reading a lot about the the Acer 5315 and I haven't really found anything on what drives are compatible for a DVD burner/writer. What do I look for when upgrading to a compatible drive? I just sold my Acer Aspire 5517 and I tried putting that drive on the 5315 but it would not fit. So I wanna make sure when I put a new one on that I won't have that dilemma.

Any SATA notebook drive will work (with possible exception of those that are locked to specific brad like HP due to whitelisting).
5315 was probably still an ATA so the connector is different.

I ordered this Samsung Drive and it came today. The drive has a different adapter, its on the same side, but looks waaay different and won't fit. Is there a plug-in device to make this thing work? The pic is the back of what it looks like, waaaay wrong adapter. What is that adapter called? I need to find something to hook this up to a USB port now.

I'm afraid I'm to blame here. My previous post is confusing to say very least- I wrote that "5315 was probably still an ATA" but in a previous sentence I wrote about SATA referring to 5517.

I'm sorry for causing all the trouble

What you have is an SATA drive with standard SATA connector for notebooks called "slimline connector".

What 5315 has is an ATA connector- ( schematic).

If you can return it please do.
If you can't- you would need something like this or this
Startech enclosure is also available on eBay for $15-20.
