Hi all, I am from Hong Kong.. I am looking for a laptop to purchase for using at home. I have been looking ard HP, Toshiba, IBM, Samsung and found many of them are pretty expensive.. I have come to the conclusion with Acer Aspire 5500, it's gonna cost me 1152 USD
The congiguration is as below,
Intel PM 730 with 915 chipset
512 DDR2 RAM
14.1 WXGA CrystalBrite Screen
ATI RAADEON X700 DDR
60 GB ATA/100 Harddisk
5 in 1 card reader
802.11 B/G Wi-Fi
But the only drawback is the it only comes with a DVD/CD-RW Combo.
What do you all think? Is it too expensive?
Thanks.![]()

Looks like a nice notebook. But, what are you using it for (what kind of apps, etc)?

mainly web-surfing, will do some photoshop work at times, watching DVD and listening to music and playing some 3D games..
Actually there is another one I was looking at this afternoon, similar specifications, I think that one is TM with a DVD-Super Multi, no graphics card though. But the guy in the shop told me that I can get an external DVD burner anytime in the future. I thought it's true though, I can't upgrade my graphics card in acer, right? -
the requirements are web-sef, 3d design(maya), play games, listen music and watch video. it not for desktop replacement, i will take it to my school.
How do you feel when i take it to my school with 2.4kg.
Acer Aspire 5500, is it worth the cash?
