    Hi:
My Aspire 5520 just simply went to an all black screen yesterday. I turned it off and tried to load windows and I got the windows/system32/config/system error or corrupt message. I tried smart mode, and system restore to no avail. So I tried to fix it with the recovery console and I would always get to a certain point in the command process and it would just either go to a blank black screen, or spread out all of the DOS commands (words)out over the screen and freeze.

Now in a last ditch attempt last night I burned a copy of KNOPPIX linux OS that boots and runs from the cd to try and see if I could get into my computers HD and backup some information and when it would try and load the OS it would just go to the same blank black screen and freeze. The KNOPPIX OS loaded fine on my desktop so I know the OS cd works.

At first I thought this was my HD being dead, but with all the problems does anyone think this sounds like a MB problem and not the HD???

any help would be greatly appreciated
