Hello guys, I am a new member in this site. I have a problem last friday I installed a 8600M GT mxm card on my acer aspire 5520G. It was successful and works but the problem is every time I start the computer during the POST this message appears.
"ERROR: MXM Structure not found or invalid.
Reflash MXM ROM or add MXM Structure and associated callbacks to SBIOS!
POST will be halted for 30 seconds and performance will be limited to
balanced performance mode until this is resolved..."
The 8600M GT is the 256mb ddr3 version and bought it from ebay. It has acer bios, then I notice when I ran gpu-z. My card is just running more or less half only of the default speed for core, memory and shader speed. Example the default memory speed is 700 mhz, my current and maximum speed is only around 300+ mhz. Probably because of this error that's why I can only run the card on balanced performance.
It seems I need to do something to my system bios or whatever and I know that its risky and might result to corruption of the bios if not properly done.
Can you guys help me? Because I have no background on this kind of problems.

Did you update your motherboard bios?
Latest version is 1.33.
I have successfully installed 9650m GT and it works fine with no problems.
I have updated my bios to v1.33 before installing a new card.
Hope this will help. -
Hey dude nice to hear that from a 5520G owner too. Wow cool a 9650M GT.
Anyways, I am scared to update bios because it might get corrupted. So how did you update the bios of your laptop? just by installing the bios from acer site? -
And dude how did you flashed your bios to v1.33 did you flash it in windows or you use a floppy disk? Because as I was searching in the internet about this problem and about acer bios update, I read some forums where in the people destroyed their acer 5520G because they updated the bios via vista.
Please help because I am scared to do something risky.
Thanks for the help -

Create a dos startup USB stick and do it through there.

In link below download Zipped file "Tools" and extract it to one folder.
RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting
There you will find following:
1. HD USB memory formatting tool.
2. Win98 boot files folder.
3. Acer v1.33 BIOS files folder.
First install HP tool and format your USB stick and choose "Create boot disk". When asked, browse to win98 boot files which will be used for creating bootable USB stick. When done with that, you will have bootable USB.
Second. Go to Acer v1.33 BIOS files folder. There you will find "Readme" file which contains guide how to flash your bios from DOS. btw. Copy suggested file for dos flash to your usb and boot system from the USB, and do as said in readme file.
I flashed my BIOS about a year ago, and as I can remember I did it from Windows, just can`t remember was it Vista or Windows 7 beta. But I strongly recommend you to flash your bios from DOS because it is much much safer. Many people had trouble flashing their bios from windows and most of them killed their laptops.
And of course, you do this on YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY.
Hope this will help and solve your problem during POST. -
